shuffling and dealing video tutorial?

Has anyone put together a tutorial on shuffling and dealing cards: something that shows some general do's and dont's and tricks of the trade, along with generally accepted practices? Maybe something that shows some pointers on how to not accidentally show cards while shuffling and dealing? I realize there's a lot of common sense to this, but I'm sure I could learn a ton from you guys. Is there something already on CT that I missed?

If this hasn't been done, would someone be interested in doing it? I, for one, wouldly really appreciate it.

Russ

Re: shuffling and dealing video tutorial?

You can see videos of table riffle shuffle and box cut on the 21ace.com web site.

Here is the page with links to the videos:

http://www.21ace.com/poker_card_tric...e_shuffle.html

One advantage of the table riffle is that it is less likely to expose cards to people watching than the "bridge" shuffle that some people do. Also it mixes cards a lot better than an overhand shuffle. And it bends the cards less too.

The box cut (placing sections of the deck onto the table sequentially) is a way for the dealer to demonstrate that they are not controlling the top card of the deck. In casinos you'll see dealers will shuffle-shuffle-box-shuffle or shuffle-box-shuffle-shuffle. You should never box twice in a row -- because it may appear to be a false cut. And you should always end with a shuffle, never with a box.

Persi Diaconis, mathematician and magician, suggests that about 7 riffle shuffles are required to really mix a deck. I usually have time for 5 or 6.

Dealers usually also release the deck after the shuffle, making it clear that they are not palming any cards or retaining any portion of the deck when they cut onto a cut card.

I don't know a source for videos on dealing cards out (pitching) so that they don't flip over or get exposed.

PM sent. The best way to not show cards when pitching is use plastic cards. Paper cards will hold a bow and flip when a little air gets under them. Bridge cards have less surface area and spin better as well. Depending on table surface, try pitching into the cloth slightly and letting the card slide to the target instead of parallel to the table top.

Edward,

Thanks for the information. I appreciate the input. I have Kems, 3 sets of the group buy Del Negros, and the 4-color Modianos are on their way.

Re: shuffling and dealing video tutorial?

I used to riffle shuffle and box cut shoes when I was dealing blackjack for a mock casino.

They tried to keep everything authentic.

For a sigle deck, a wash, and strip should do.

perhaps I can put a pictorial together for you.
