p.s- i gave him 200 bucks, some said that was way too much |

10% of that pot would have been $70. Unless the dealer had a gun pointed at my head, he wasn't gonna get $70 off me.
And for the record, I'd much rather they paid the dealers a living wage, upped the rake if need be, and banned tipping altogether.
I just don't understand tipping people for doing their job properly. It's not like the guy dealt me playable cards on purpose, and he wasn't exactly killing the table with repartee.
The best dealer I have ever seen, dealt the cards without error and was generally polite.
Isn't that their job?

Isn't that their job? | I'm with you here. Well mostly. My cash game pots will use earn the dealer a buck or two. I've gotten to know the dealers pretty well. They work for minimum wage and tokes are expected for them to earn a living. Just like servers in our resturants in the US.
I'm not sure how but the casinos have managed to schlep that responsiblity off to the customers

I've had dealers that mis-dealt, mis-read the cards, needed to call the floor for basic rule checks, and were pretty grumpy to boot, but still got a tip from virtually every pot.

Yeah, I'm guilty of toke those humps too. Must be nice to know that they can still get paid for being terrible.
