I'm putting together a cash game set for a reallllly low stakes nlhe game. $5 min buy-in, $20 max buy-in. (with rebuys of course) I was originally thinking of .10/.25 blinds. But then do I really want .10 chips? What do y'all think about .25/.25 blinds? Do you think that'd have a negative impact on the game?

yeah, just get a few of them though... 50 should do. If you ever want to play even lower get 100 of them.

.25/.25 works fine too.

We use .25/.25 blinds and everyone is fine with it. I used to have 10c chips but soon realized they were pointless in a 10/25 game as they are only there for the blinds. It makes paying people their winnings much less tedious as well.

If people are actually going to buy-in for $5 (i.e. if that's the point of the micro-cash game), then why not 5c/10c blinds? That gives players 50 BB to play with (not nearly as short-stacked as if the BB was 25c), and you can use any tournament set of chips - 5s, 25s, and 100s (for rebuys).

We played weekly for well over a year with .25/.50 and a suggested $20 buy-in.

When we bought our 1000 custom ASM's for about $1 a chip, I had to raise the blinds to .50/$1 so the chip value was at least close to the cash value for most of them. I could not have lived with the $1 cost of chips, denomed at 25 cents.

With a suggested $5 buy-in you better play like .5/.10 blinds.

But if you can make the suggested initial buy-in closer to $20, then .25/.50 should work just fine. You want the blinds to be felt, but not be crippling.

I imagine the average buy-in will actually be $10. I only listed the $5, because that'd be the minimum allowed. I know at least a couple of us would be buying in for the full $20. Pokerstars .10/.25 nl ring games have a min buy-in of $5 and a max of $25 so I thought that we'd be close. I'm just not sure that it'd be that big a deal if we just used 2 big blinds...

Starting stacks:

$1 17 (take 10 away if only buying in for $10)

Use all the $1's up for re-buys until they are gone, then go to the $5's. This puts plenty of chips in play. The $1's will be your primary workhorse chips that's why you'll want more of them.
