Just wondering if anybody out there regularly plays against someone who is not the best player but know the basics but always seem to get lucky on you or another player in your game on a regular basis?

Yes. It's not me. He's not only lucky, he's a bad player too. Makes lots of mistakes that get regularly rewarded over a couple of years now. It's a very difficult thing to understand how somebody can continually have such excellent card Karma.

i used to think we had a couple of luckboxes, but the more we played, the closer we got to the long term.

That's what I'm hoping for jojo. Just keep getting in with the best hand and hope that in time it pays off.

Why not cut down on the "getting it in" and instead outplay him?...You know...play poker. Anyone can push all their chips in the middle, turn over their cards, and see what happens. It takes skill to see flops and outplay people; confuse them with some check raises, floaters, etc.

i agree with woody.

getting it in with QQ v his AK will get you the chips 60% of the time. chopping out wins without big confrontations (when you can) will get you the chips more often than that.

it's hard to come to terms with not getting it all in when you know you're good. but, the truth is you should prefer to not give them a chance to luckbox you. this isn't as simple as it sounds...it's not something you decide and then it just happens.

it is something to always consider and strive towards.

But if that person is a luck box who plays badly as in jamby case what would you do then? E.g. someone who will call you to the river with Ace high only to catch the ace on 5th street vs. K-K.

you price them out. you can't make them fold, you can only make them make mistakes that earn you theoretical chips (aka sklansky bucks).

if you KNOW he has ace high and you get him all in (regardless of stack size), you go busto 20% of the time. if you play a smaller pot you still have the same chance of winning / losing the pot, but without the risk of going bust.

not going bust is pretty important in tournaments, yeah?
