Chips: 19 | | | Re: curious - what stakes are folks playing for? 0.10/0.20 for a $5 buy-in, unlimited rebuys. The game is quite serious, since everyone hates to lose. In Brazil we call the loser a "duck", as in "been the duck" or "got the duck" or "played like a duck". We have a trophy of Uncle Scrooge, which we give to the loser of the week, so he can feed the duck and take care of the duck till next game. Every game is appointed in a notebook, and the duck gets highlighted and made fun of. No one cares about the winner. |

We can play in bars in Portland OR.. not sure of other cities in OR...
poker is considered the same as pool, darts, chess, backgamon, or dominos... just as long as there is no rake. I live 5 blocks from a bar that has tournies and cash games 1 or 2 times a week.
its so much better than having to go to a casino.

Chips: 232 | | | Re: curious - what stakes are folks playing for? Our cash games are usually .40/.80 (.20/.40 blinds) (exactly 1/10th scale of a casino 4/8 limit game)
but we trade off on Hold'em and Omaha
for tourneys we do $5 buy-in plus $1 bounty. |

Chips: 1,583 | | | Re: curious - what stakes are folks playing for? Well I voted 5¢/10¢, but it often plays like 25¢/25¢ most guys will buy in for $10-$15. And I say this because the cash games are typically side games to the tournament. The tournaments are usually $10, occasionally $20.
Also on Thursday we do something a little different...
Play starts at 9:00pm, cash out at 11:00 or 12:00 depending on the group and we vote before we start. Everyone buys in for $1 and get $10 worth of chips, rebuy any time, blinds are 5¢/10¢. Usually get 5 players and 2-3 rebuys. At the end of the night everyone is cashed out in even 25¢ amounts the remaining chips are carried over to the next game.
We have been doing this since Christmas and it has worked out pretty well. As far as the play goes, its loose due to being shorthanded...but nothing I wouldn't see at some of the larger cabin games I play at for bigger stakes. |
