So if two people take a deal to split tournament money, how do you rank them place wise (say for league points)? Should this be stipulated in the deal, or should they each get 2nd Place Points plus half a point? How do you handle it?
They should continue playing until one of them is eliminated. The deal only concerns how they will split the money between themselves and not their official finishing position.
Some clarification - for our friendly home game - most of of the time when tournament money is chopped, it's to get the cash game going. We don't play with a leaque or points. I don't see a problem chopping points.

Let's say that in each of the tournaments, the winner gets 200 points, the runner-up 150 points. Final tournament before the tournament of champions: Players A needs 160 points to get into the final, Player B 180. That is, only one of them will make the tournament of champions. Player A and B decide to chop the points 165-185 so both make the final, which means that Player C won't make it. Their deal does no longer only concern themselves but also have effect on other players. I think chopping should only concern the players concerned. A deal should be between those who make the deal only.
