Hosting games in December

I wish I were hosting more games than I will be in December, but it looks like it will be one, likely a short handed or small game due to Baby Q and that occupying most all of my time... however;

On the topic of hosting through the holiday season, I'd like to suggest that everyone who host makes it a *requirement* that anyone who shows up at their game, bring a gift that can then be taken and donated to Toys for Tots, your local Church, Charity toy drive, etc.

We are all very fortunate to have what we have, and we should always remember that there are those who do not have what we do. In our daily lives, we can often take the simple things for granted. Those are often the things that others don't have.

So, remember to be grateful and gracious for what you have, and be willing to share it.

A $10 or $20 gift from Target, Walmart, Toys-R-Us, where ever you chose to buy from really goes a long long way with the children this Holiday season.

For the game I host, it will be a requirement to get in the game. I hope others promote the same.

Re: Hosting games in December

i as well don't usually hold a december tourney, but a friend volunteered his place to hold one.

lo & behold, i have a confirmed list of 23 players, when i normally get 16-18 players.

as for the donation, we donate to a children's hospital each and every tourney. $3 from each player's buy in is pooled & donated on behalf of the winner of the game.

since sep 2005, we've raised & donated about $3,000 (yes, three thousand) to the cancer ward at the local children's hospital

i hope that we, the poker home game community, do something to help the less fortunate, not only during the holiday season, but all year long

Re: Hosting games in December

The officers in my battalion play a $10 or $15 NLHE game (read: listen to the higher ranking guys tell you about the old days and drink beer and scotch) once a month. All that money is donated to the local foodshelf on behalf of the unit's officer corps.

Great idea Quads! It's nice to see someone who remembers what this holiday season is about. Merry Christmas wishes to you and yours Sir.

Indypoker and I combined our two games for December and came up with this.
