I've told a few stories about the guy "
Doug" at our home game.
Well Doug finally hit the last straw last night. He won't be sitting at our games for a while.
We started playing at about 5:45pm, running a little late from our normal start time of 5pm. Short handed table of 6 players, since several regulars had to cancel at the last minute.
Two of those players are Doug and his new "girlfriend" who he has been teaching how to play.
He yammering at her the whole time about what to do, and snapping back at other players when they are explaining rules, as if it was his house, or he was teaching a class at our table.
When they walked in, his girlfriend announced, I can't stay long. I'm expecting a call and whenI get it, I have to leave.
OK that's cool.
She gets her call at about 7:30 and has to leave.
We are now down to 5 players.
Doug hits a good run of cards (AA, KK, AKs, & KK again in about 8 hands) and triples up his $50 he sat down with. He is the button and as he is shuffling, he says, "I've got to go after this hand."
It is now about 8:15pm.
We all think he's ribbing us. He's got a stupid look on his face, like he just told a bad joke. We chuckle and say, "Oh, shut up and deal you douche."
He deals out the cards, folds his hand, and starts counting up his chips.
We all knit our brows and say, "You are really gonna make a run like that, cash out and leave?"
He says, "Yep, I'm ahead, it's time for me to go. If I stay, you'll just have time to win it back."
I reluctantly cashed him out and informed him that was not cool at all. And that it is common courtesy is to let us know in advance of when you need to leave, like his lady friend did, or to give the players about an hour notice if he forgot to let us know when he arrived.
He says something back like, "Oh, well, sorry."
He cashes out for about $160 and splits. He was playing for just over 2 hours.
I said something to the other players after he is gone, and everyone else is almost speachless. Now it's only 8:30pm and we are down to 4 players.
The rest of the night we are stunned asking each other, "Did he
really just do that?"
We are all floored. How totally uncool.
To add to it,
just last week, Doug hit a big hand against my wife, who is known to not react well when she gets busted on a trap. She can get emotional, and everyone knows it. She can be a sore loser, but is working on it, and doing better with each game.
Well Doug busts her on a decent sized pot, and when they flip, he wins, he jumps up out of his chair, claps his hands, pumps his fists, and yells, "Oh, yeah! I f**king got you! I put you on that hand! I had you trapped soooo bad, f**k yeah!" As if he just won the WSOP. My wife looks like she is gonna kick him in the gonads, and has to leave the table to cool off.
Sorry Doug, that was the last strike against you.
I'll be calling Doug today and telling him he is not welcome back until I think it's time. He is being taken off the Evite list. He needs time to think about what he did, and we need some games without him. You wanna play like that, there are casinos about another 20 minutes from our house. Just keep driving man, keep driving. This is a friendly small stakes home game.
Has anyone else had to actually remove a regular player from their games like this? Or worse, has anyone ever actually had to ask a player to leave during a game?
Vent here with me brothers and sisters, I'm still stunned over this one.
