Well, I was snowed in today in Oklahoma - Blizzard warning, and 6-8 inches of snow by this evening, so all the schools and my military base was closed for the day...
I decided to make good use of my time and upgrade my somewhat cheap octagonal poker table I had been using.
I bought this table from Spinetti's for a great price - about $300 shipped including a wood cover to convert it into a dining table. My only complaint about the table quality was the playing surface, which was inadequately padded and used very cheap felt cloth. It was very rough and looked low grade. I highly recommend this table for the price (especially if you can pick it up and save on shipping!). It's a real hand-made wood pedistal based table, stained and very nice with the matching dining table cover. Its just lacking in the playing surface department, but luckily, it is a very easy modification to do yourself.
Here is a photo from the Spinetti's site of what the table looked like before my upgrade:
So I consulted one of the more well-known table builders on the site (*acesandfaces*) on how to upgrade the playing surface.
I had ordered the materials online and began using my down time on this snowy day to do the upgrade.
It came out great! I upgraded the cheapo thin 1/16" foam with 1/4" Volara and the playing surface with suited speed-cloth.
Here's the result!
