This weekend I running a NLHE tournament and for the first time I'll be colouring up the chips and performing chip races etc. This is mainly due to a new set of chips where I actually have enough
100 denom chips to colour up the
25 denoms.
The colouring up process seems easy enough, every player exchanges 4
25 denom chips for 1
100 denom chip once the blind levels render the
25 denom chips redundant. For example:
Starting Chip: $1500 (8 x
25; 8 x
100; 1 x
500)
Level 1: 25-50
Level 2: 50-100
Level 3: 75-150
Level 4: 100-200
Level 5: 150-300
Level 6: 200-400 (Colour Up & Chip Race)
Level 7: 300-600
Now the trick bit, the chip race itself for the
odd chips. I've read the section at Home Poker Tourney and to be honest got a little confused i.e. Adding extra chips etc so I figured a simple version might be the order of the day for a first-time chip racer:
Bob, Jim, Pat and Sam exchange every 4
25 denom chips they have for a single
100 denom chip. But Bob has 3 left over
25 denom chips, Jim and Pat have 2 each and Sam a single 25 denom chip. Each player in seating order recieves one card from a shuffled deck all at once for every
odd chip e.g. Bob get 3 cards, Pat and Sam get 2 cards each and poor old Sam gets just 1 card. The player with the highest card by rank and suit (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs) gets all the
odd chips and thr rights to exchange them for
100 denom chips. For example, the cards are dealt:
Bob :

Pat:

Jim:

Sam:
Both Jim and Sam share an Ace but Sam wins due to the
suit tie-breaker i.e. Spades vs. Club and wins all the
odd chips, 8 in total and then exchange them for 2
100 denom chips and the game can then continue.
How does that sound?
