Chips: 1,861 | | | Sanity check, please OK, so I'm unemployed. I need some CA$H, and quick. Basically, I need a stopgap while I research and tool up for electronics recycling (never been very compatible with 9-5 jobs). I'm considering posting this to denver.craigslist.org tonight: Quote: |

I am willing to come to your house in the Denver Metro area to deal your poker game strictly for tips. Micro stakes (under .50/1 NLHE) or tournaments would need to be negotiated beforehand. I am available nearly 7 days a week, every week.
I have very nice retired casino chips (suitable for up to 2/5 NLHE) and KEM cards as well as a good poker table for use/rental. I own a good tournament timer. I am also willing to use your equipment. I have no problem with players smoking and drinking around myself or my gear.
I am a competent dealer, well versed in rules and procedures. I am clean, polite and articulate; able to move a game along at a brisk yet comfortable pace. I have never held a gaming license and have dealt many home games. I am confident with the rules and procedures for all games spread in casinos, from Hold'em to Omaha8 all the way to KC lowball and Stud8. Odd wild-card games may have to be explained to me.
| Am I just stupid? Being the "house" in Colorado carries a maximum penalty of a misdemeanor. I'm willing to accept that risk, if the money appears to be decent after the first few.
Would anyone here respond to such an ad? Will the cops?

you aren't the house in a traditional sense, since you aren't hosting the event, though.
you are offering a service, like a bartender or a butler. you are profiting from gambling, but the players are not competing against you.
I don't think you could technically be considered the house, however, if you profit from illegal gambling, then you could be responsible for some infraction.
I would post this question on a free legal site and wait a few days for someone certified to give you an explanation. |

Chips: 1,861 | | | Re: Sanity check, please Yeah, I'm honestly not too worried about the legal aspect of it. If the MAX I can get is a class 1 misdemeanor then an argument could definitely be made that I'm just a "card butler". I wouldn't expect to do any actual jail time if raided.

Chips: 307 | | | Re: Sanity check, please The real problem if Johnny Law came knocking is losing your gear. I couldn't see how they wouldn't confiscate your chips/cards/table from the game if the act was deemed illegal in your state. Your scenario seems like a risk/reward decision. If you do this, definitely post the info on how it works out. GL with your decision. |

This is my first and foremost concern. Who's to say that they don't let me deal all night and then someone waits for me outside to ambush me, beat the crap out of me and take my money?
BTW, SuspiciousBastard (tm) is a compliment of the highest regard. I strive to be as suspicious as possible until proven otherwise.

I would say try to pre-screen the people you will work for but that is a tuff process I'm sure. I guess you may have some idea based on the geographic location of the game (If it's in a "Ghetto" location maybe decline)
How much money do you think you can make? I guess in the end it may be a risk/reward tpye of decision. If someone pulls a gun/knife/etc to get your money you need to decide if it's worht it to fight (I'm assuming no).
