Chips: 1,244 | | | dealers choice games... I've never been privvy to seeing a HORSE tourney, so I made up the house rules for my 1-2 NL game...
choices are:
HE
Omaha
O8
Pinapple (crazy pineapple, apparently)
and
7Stud
now the first 4 games is obvious hoe the blinds go, but we didn't know what to do with 7, so here's what we came up with
BB is still $2, and everyone antes $1. after the deal, regardless of the up card, the player UTG bets first....and on...
after the first round of betting, we go back to normal stud rules (high hand is first bet)
how do real players do this?

how do real players do this? | Low card showing always has a forced bet called the bring in usually for the minimum bet. |

Chips: 5,848 | | | Re: dealers choice games... We play 7CS a few different ways depending on the host.
1. We use a bring-in (lowest card by suit) for either .50c or $1 and then the optional completion to $1 or $2. Structured betting follows as the bet goes up on 5th street or a pair showing.
2. Dealer ante's for everyone and high card by suit has the option to bet. Dealt as a complete orbit of the table.
We've never tried using blinds.
Our typical dealer's choice is played in full orbits of whatever game is called with a few exceptions. We play all the games you listed and a few others like Triple Draw (A5 or 27), 5Draw, Badagui (spelling?) and a few odd ball games like Crazy Pineapple Omaha (H or H/L with 5 cards, toss 1 at flop) or worse. |

Re: your question, at a certain CTer's ring game, the button simply rotates as with HE/O/Pine..etc... If the dealer selects 7stud, for that game, what would have been the BB and SB get to save their forced bets and the game is played normally for 7stud, with bring-ins determined by the card up. No one really cares about who gets to save blinds if a particular player always chooses 7-card...I don't, the host doesn't and no one ever chooses 7stud all nght anyway. Frankly, every second game is Omaha Hi/Lo and then things go crazy from there! (Right, Duke? ) Quote: |

The blind schedule for the 50 000 HORSE tourney at the WSOP can be found by clicking on the link on this page (I found this useful) http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/ev...?eventid=36507
Essentially we switched games each orbit (as opposed to time, which is also possible) and the stud-based games had no blinds. Since it was an orbit based thing, no one had to pay more/less than others.
The thing that was the most weird for me was that it was limit, which meant the tourney took FOREVER, especially with all the split pot games. Doing a pot-limit/NL mix would probably be better... and I like your idea of substituing in Pineapple.
Hope this helps,
lucky. |

Does anyone see any problems with the way we're doing it? (some of these guys get twitchy about rules/procedural changes)

When we play HOPS tournies, we just change from blinds to antes and back again as the timer dictates. Each time we go back to Hold Em from stud, we start the button at the player after the last dealer for pineapple, so it all works out in the end.
You shouldn't really need to use blinds in Stud the way you are, but again, if it works for you and you don't want to change, more power to ya. |

Only problem is if one of your home game players walks into the casino and insists they know the rules 'cause they play "all the time" (yup - happened). Or the opposite - someone new comes to your game and is confused. It's gonna be rare, and these "problems" can easily be prevented by a three sentence explanation. So if you like what you have, stick with it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
