| Re: Team league?? I tried a team-format season with my league up at school, and although we don't have as many regulars as you, we were able to come up with something that seemed to work pretty well.
We had twelve players divided into four teams, each with three members. Our regular season would consist of each team playing six regular season matches where your team will play every other team twice. Each person paid an initial buy-in plus a small additional amount before each match. Then, the players would sit six to a table and play a NLHE freezeout. Each person who was eliminated would get points based on the place they got and those points went towards a team total. The winner of the table collected all of the "additional" amounts that were paid in, and then the buy-ins were distributed amongst the winning team for that match.
Then, at the end of the regular season, we had the four teams ranked on a basis of points where the best team would match up with the worst team, and the two middle teams were matched up as well. Again, we played two tables, each with six players (three team members, apiece). Each person paid a buy in and this time an additional fee equal to the buyin. But since this was like the "post-season" we had a twist to it: When one team had all its players eliminated at their table, play would stop. The remaining members of the winning team would wait and then play the remaining members of the winning team from the other table. That then became our final table and left open the possibility of a team playing shorthanded for the championship. At the end, whoever won collected all the "additional" fees for being the individual champion, and all of that person's team members shared the buyins of the other teams.
Anyway, it was a really cool experience and we actually divided the teams up by regions where we lived. We had a New York team, a New Jersey Team, a Pennsylvania team, and a New England team. It was fun, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. |
