Anyway, on this occasion I used my cherries as a dime chip and it was fine. No-one else that plays gives a damn about what chips we use anyway, just me.
I gave out 5 dime chips to each player, and they made change when they needed it. Very smooth.
Except.....
They just cannot get to grips with the stakes that they are playing. Example:
blinds 10c/25c
Seat 3 : Raise 4 dollars. (16 x the big blind for those that need help with that)
Seat 4 : Call
Seat 5 : Call
Seat 6 : Call
Seat 7 : fold
sb Call
bb fold
So, we have a raise in early position of 16 x the big blind and four callers. This continued to the river with raises of 2 and 3 dollars at a time, losing only three of the five players along the way.
Original raiser had KQo, seat 4 had A4suited, Seat 5 had ?, seat 6 had a pair of 4s, sb had ?
Under these circumstances, i feel that i have done what i can to protect people from losing too much money, but they have to do their bit as well. After 3 hours one guy had lost $60 and was clearly fed up. Two others busted out twice each so they'd dumped $40.
Not sure what else I can do. Play limit? Teach them how to play? |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Re: Quick question RE: NLHE ring game I had the same thing happen when we played .25/.50 NL. A riase to anything less than $5 was openly mocked. Kind of defeated the purpose of the stakes in my mind just as you're feeling. Anyway, that's why I switched my cash game to a limit game. We play $1/$2 with a kill and it's worked pretty well the last several months. I still get the complainers that cry about not being able to protect a hand in limit, but most people are happy and have learned to adapt to a limit game. Even with this setup, I would say our swings range somewhere in the +/- $60 range. Losing $60 is a REAL tough night and doesn't happen much. But winning $50-60 is pretty common for the big winner on the game. |

After the success of the pot limit tourney I had last week, I might consider this. Preflop generally stays reasonable and you can get some action, but on later streets you do have the ability to price out draws. Best of both worlds. |

Chips: 2,938 | | | Re: Quick question RE: NLHE ring game We play 25/50 cent blinds in NLHE, and the initial buy-in ranges from $20 - $40.
The table is always full with 10 players.
$20 gets (40) 25 cent chips, and (10) $1.00 chips.
$40 gets (40) 25 cent chips and (30) $1.00 chips.
I have one rack (100) of $5.00 chips, but they are only used when someone is spilling over with chips, or takes a monster pot with lots of 25 cent chips in it. I'll then turn one rack of 25 centers into five $5 chips right from the pot to help them clean up their stacks a bit.
Tight players are happy with $20 to start, and sometimes buy in for another $20 if they are running cold in the beginning. Very few players lose more than $40, and a big winner might walk away with $150-$200.
But those (like me) that tangle a little more from the start, just sit down with $40.
These levels work great, and small raises pre-flop ($1.00 - $1.50) are common and get a handful of calls, and a "blind stealing" PF raise is usually about $4.00 - $5.00, but does get called or raised at times by one or two players at most.
After I get my ASM order in, I'm going to change it to 50 cent/$1.00 blinds and give people a lot fewer of the 50 cent chips, since they will only be needed for blinds and odd call amounts.
But the way it is right now for some reason people love to toss handfuls of 25 cent chips in as a bet or call, even if they have a bunch of $1 chips in their stacks. That's part of the reason why I give them the large amount of small denoms on cash in at the beginning of the game.

Not sure what else I can do. Play limit? Teach them how to play? | This is definitely a limit game group. Play .50/1 (small bet/big bet) limit so you can use your 25¢ samurais. If they still want to play NL, then play tight and take all their money. |
