Tournament Director: getting it to a TV

Hi, I'm about to take the HDTV plunge, and when not watching Hi-Def whatnot on teevee I thought it would be cool to have the TD screen hop over to the HDTV. This seems do-able, but I'm hoping anyone can confirm. I DONT have Windows Media, and I can't stretch a DVI cable across the room to the TV. Is there a wireless solution? A cheap wireless solution?

Obviously this isnt mission critical, but if I'm not careful itll turn into a all-weekend project with too many trips to J&R. So I just need to know if this 'fantasy' is feasable.

I'd get a long S-Video cable, if your graphics card has an S-Video output.

Re: Tournament Director: getting it to a TV

I use S-video, but I have TD on a laptop and just set it near the 65" set. I wouldn't want to run back and forth to another location to bust people out during the game, so the laptop needs to be close at hand anyway.

Re: Tournament Director: getting it to a TV

hey Mac,
I have my laptop hooked up to the tv for tournaments and all i did was get a 6ft video cord and i hook it up to one of the vid1,vid2, vid3 inputs on the tv. You have to set something on your laptops settings to be able to view it on the tv. It is something like cntrl f8 or something like that on my toshiba. Hope that helps.
Harry

Re: Tournament Director: getting it to a TV

If you get an HDTV with an RGB or VGA input (computer monitor connection - ) then you could just use a vga cable as well. But as others are mentioning - the svid cable is an easy way to go. (also need svideo out on your comp.)

Some graphics cards have just a rca video plug (yellow) out on their computer - That will work great as well.

Re: Tournament Director: getting it to a TV

yup svid is the way to go. you could probly pickup a hd tuner if you wanted to, but TD wont take advantage of HDtv anyways. so you could probly pickup a 10ft svideo cable for under 20bucks

Re: Tournament Director: getting it to a TV

My HDTV has a "VGA" input (the actual resolution depends on the computer's graphics card). That certainly does better than s-video, which itsef is a step up from the composite (yellow RCA) video. If your graphics card outputs DVI or HDMI, that would be better yet.
The longest cable I've used is about 15' (VGA).
For wireless? I suppose there's a local (low-power) TV transmitter you could hook up to your computer? I'd think a better solution, though, would be to buy a second cheap computer and hook that one up to your TV. Then use wireless LAN to connect your remote computer(s) to the one hooked up to the TV. You could then run TD on the TV/computer, and access it using any number of remote connection packages (Remote Desktop Sharing , NetMeeting, etc. etc.)
