Be careful who you invite to you games..

Well I had a fairly interesting weekend. It mostly started on Sunday when I played in one of the free tourney's in town. Well I got busted out fairly early (stupid pocket 5's calling till the river and FH ing it to beat my trips) but the guy sitting next to me seemed pretty cool. He looked like a fellow college student and we chatted so I decided to invite him to my home game. Normally I am very careful who I invite but he seemed cool and there would be 5 of us and him so I wasn't too worried. Well he showed up and was like "I brought two of my friends" I knew somethign was wrong right then and he confirmed it when he asked me if I knew where to score some blow . Well I figured best to just play the game and get them out. From the beginning it was pretty obvious they were trying to scam us, they asked several times how many rebuys they could do and seemed dissapointed when I limited it at two (we dont usually limit it at all because no one usually does more then 2). From the start every time one of the guys friends would win a pot they would "loose" a hand to him and he would take all their money and they would then rebuy. Me and my friends caught one immediatly but didnt want to cause trouble over it because it was just $5 so we just didn't rebuy when we busted out. My other friend thought he could still take them and rebought once. Well after about 2 hours one of the guys was out after dropping his buy in + 2 rebuys and the other was on his second rebuy and was very short stacked. My friend on the other hand was very close to beating the groups leader and it came down to one hand that he put the guy all in on. My friend had big slick with clubs and the guy had pocket 8's. the flop came 9heart 4 club and 5 club. So if the next two cards were a club or an ace or a king my friend had him. Well he ended up loosing but it made me laugh that they had put 40 bucks on the table to try and scam us out of 25 and came very close to loosing it (my friend had about a 40% chance after the flop if my math is correct). It was probably better that he didn't win because I didnt want these three "con artists" getting pissed off in my house but it was funny because they thoguht they would roll in and take us and we were either way better then they expected or they were really bad.

The moral is watch out who you invite and make sure it's just them. I am normally very careful because I am generally trusting of other college studends but my friend recognized him and said he probably got kicked out of school last semister. Probably for crack stuff.

You think that is bad! We have had people bring chips from home to free poker at the local bar and grill. People were also caught marking cards there.

mostly this thread makes me less scared of collusion. this is representative, i'd guess, of how bad and stupid people are at it.

I think the general opinion is that MOST criminals ARE stupid.

What we see on TV and in the movies is .01% of the criminal population, like cat burglars, and techno-heists, and CSI stuff.

If they were solid players, why would they need or want to cheat or collude? Only the mediocre of the world think they can "outsmart" the general public, because they are not capable of realizing that their "great idea" is really only a nominal one, to anyone WITH a brain.

Re: Be careful who you invite to you games..

If they were smart, would they be trying for $25!!!! You can make $25 honestly for a lot less effort than that. And don't forget that is $25 split between 3 guys.
