Unhappy What are the odds of this in a tourney?

Sorry this is a rant post and does not have any value at all. It's really just a waste of time but I just need an ear. My friend and I ran our monthly T1500 this weekend and the poker gods were just pissed off at me.

Come on, what are the odds of this? I played for little over 2 hours + all the way up to the 5th blind level and can you believe I did not win a hand!

Now, no one can say that I played too tight. I play my cards, position, the players, oods, and can change gears when I need too. But check it, my highest pocket pair was 55 in MP, my best catch on the flop was with KQs in the BB w/ flop of Kh 3c 8d w/ 5 limpers, and after I made a decent size raise I got 5 callers???? Go figure. The majority of my hands were 95o, 83o, A3o, etc. I just couldn't make any moves it was wild.

Anyway, don't want to write more because it's just a rant but what are the odds with a 32 player tourney, you not winning a hand?
The poker gods were just not with me. At least they laid off me a bit on the side cash game that started up. I at least walked away up from that.

Talking Re: What are the odds of this in a tourney?

I know...I know... Kev. I did walk away up so who cares. Your 100% right.

I'm just shocked at the run of cards I got in the tourney. I've had bad runs of cards before but I will get a win here and there or at least a pocket pair higher than 5's. It was just amazing for me.

Re: What are the odds of this in a tourney?

As hard as it is to believe, it's not all that unlikely that you can get two hours of very cold hands. At an average of one hand every two minutes, you'll have been dealt around sixty hands. Getting poor cards for sixty hands in a row isn't that rare. For example, poker players who want to run a statistically valid analysis of their hands typically rely on tracking 50,000 - 100,000 hands in order to have enough hands to figure out whether their luck is different enough from random on a statistically valid basis.

From a personal standpoint, I can sympathize with you. In last year's WSOP main event, I folded every single hand I was dealt during the second level - 50 hands in all. I never had a pocket pair, nor did I ever get dealt two cards above a nine. Pretty frustrating when you've paid $10,000 for a seat... My cold run continued for my entire tenure at that event, and the best hand I had all day -- trip sevens -- lost to a straight flush on the river and busted me out.

That's poker.

Re: What are the odds of this in a tourney?

I've gone much longer than two hours without winning a hand.

I've also had runs of crap cards that seems to last forever, sometimes you can make it work if you pay attention to everything that's going on, but most often you just have grin and bear it.

Re: What are the odds of this in a tourney?

sucks, but that happens time to time. played a couple hours without winning a hand...made some great lay downs to stay alive, they were kind/dumb enough to show. was getting low went all in with AK (best thing all day) off suit, one caller, also with AK off suit (none of our suits matched) his A was a or , and he hit 2 on the flop, one on the turn, and one more on the river for one sweet nut flush...just one of those days.

Smile Re: What are the odds of this in a tourney?

LOL Thanks guys! I know it's poker. I guess it just hit me harder this time with this bad run. I'm ok with it.

Wow, man PLZ sorry to hear that. 10k and get a run like that - that gotta suck. You don't have to sympathize with me bro...I can't even start to imagine want you went through. Of course for me it would be a dream to play at WSOP and a run like that would be a nightmare for me.

Re: What are the odds of this in a tourney?

I had something similar to this happen to me a few tournaments back.

I got such garbage for hands and was starting to get blinded out, that I went all in on from small blind on a pocket pair of 7's, the best hand I'd seen all night. I was hoping to just steal the big blind which was about 25% of my chip stack, only to have the BB call and flip over KK. Great.

I got to play one hand to the river (probably saw 3 flops before that by checking the BB) and picked the wrong time to make my first move.

Sometimes the cards are just COLD for you.
