Chips: 447 | | | Rebuys...if and when? Just curious to hear how other folks are handling rebuys at their tournaments. I typically have between 15-25 players broken up between two or three tables depending on the actual player count. I do the rebuys for everyone that wants one at the end of each round (with the end of round three being the cutoff for rebuys). Some players have asked why they can't rebuy right after they bust out, which is what led to this post.
I play as well as run the games, and it can be tough to play a hand and try to handle rebuys at the same time. So, to limit impact on the group as a whole, I decided to handle all rebuys at the end of the round. That way everyone rebuying for that round starts off on even footing, and there isn't a table waiting for me to finish a hand or finish wrapping up someone's rebuy during play. We have a lot of newbies at this point and no one wants to act as a table captain to handle rebuys at each individual table, so I'm stuck handling them for all three tables. Does my solution sound like a good (and fair) way to handle it? Any suggestions on how to improve it? thanks for your input - m |

One idea would be to have the correct breakdown of chips for the rebuy already sorted and put in some baggies or some other container and when people bust out they just walk over to you, pay you the rebuy then you hand them the chips and your done. Not much to it.
Just put the chips on a table behind you kinda like the food carts at a casino and it should work out ok.

The short answer is, it's your game and you should run it any way you want. I don't think it introduces a great deal of "unfairness" or whatever to do things your way.
That said, there are some things you can do to keep things going and allow the rebuys continuously.
For one, if you're not already doing it, I would recommend using Tournament Director or the like to help run your tournies. Especially if you can keep the computer either near you or easily accessible to you. With TD, you hit 'V', click the player, and the rebuy is logged. Very quick and simple.
Also, keep the rebuys together and easy to get to and give out. For instance, my rebuys are for T3,000. I just keep a rack with 4 purples and an orange ready to go.
The last thing that my guys already do automatically is have them call out when someone is all-in at a different table. That way you're alerted to it and if you're not involved in a hand, you can get the rebuy ready if needed.
Hope that helps! |

The primary reason being is that the chips are worth more now than at the beginning of the next round. I would definitely recommend that you keep the rebuy chips down to just a few like two $500 chips. This keeps it easy for you and is fairest to the knocked out player. |

Chips: 447 | | | Re: Rebuys...if and when? And one other question on rebuys—should players have to decide right away if they want to rebuy, and rebuy within that round? Or can they wait a round and then rebuy if they want to take some time to get over a bad beat or smoke a stogie?
Thanks for the quick feedback--I love this site! I'm currently using Dr. N's Tournament Manager, which I love but it does slow down the rebuy process a bit, especially since I track all of the eliminated/eliminator info for league rankings, so I have to get that in the system before I do the rebuy.
I do try to have enough rebuy stacks made-up and ready to go beforehand, but the process still seems to take a minute or so to work through between logging everything into the TM, getting the cash, handing out chips. I guess all and all that isn’t a whole lot of time. I think the suggestion of having the tables giving a holler when there’s an All-in is a great one and will speed things up since I’ll know a rebuy might be coming soon. I guess if one player rebuying has to wait a couple minutes longer to get his rebuy than another player, it’s not really that big of deal within the same round. Good stuff to ponder—thanks again for the great input. -mw |

You can leave after you rebuy and get blinded away for a few orbits, this is fine, but I think the rule, correct me if I'm wrong is that you have to rebuy right away. No waiting, which would be wrong to do anyway because the blinds will be higher and it will be harder to play.

I would also "designate" a table captain. Make it regular who sees things the way you do, and be firmly polite about it! Tell him if he doesn't do it...he's not coming back!!
Just Kidding!! Actually I think if you just explained your thoughts/situation they would understand! |
