Chips: 377 | | | When someone has to leave the game .... What do you do with their stack? Say someone has a medium stack, around starting point, and suddenly has to leave for some reason. Do you give them the buy-in back? If not, what to do with their stack? Take it off? That wouldn't be right, it has other people's in-play chips in it. Just leave it there and blind them out for the rest of the game?

if it is durng lets say a rebuy period, blind them and remove their stack when the rebuy period ends. Quote: |

In such a situation, their buy-in is the least of their concerns, but it would mean a lot if you exercised some compassion and work out some sort of compromise after discussing it amongst the other players at the table (it's not as if the person was there to listen to whatever you decide.)
If it's a large group of people playing tourney style, then the proper thing to do would be to blind out the stack, especially if there is no legit reason for the absence (and having to go to work or to meet a curfew is not a legit excuse, that should have been planned for.)
If it's a cash game, it's simple just remove the stack from the table and cash the player out (give him/her the cash next time or deliver it to them when convenient.) Quote: |

Generally, you would not refund their buy in, but in a friendly home tourney, there certainly could be situations where it could be considered. |

And as Pocket Rocket stated, work or curfew or something is not a reason to refund, but serious family emergencies are something that a buy in or at least a portion of a buy in should be refunded. If they were up, they should not get more than the buy in, but if they were down to 50% of the starting stack, I would give back half the buy in. |

No reason you have to follow those rules, but it doesn't hurt to make the decision before the tourney starts. Having rules in place that you follow can preclude arguements later on. |

If someone had to leave early it would have to be for a good reason since we only play around once a month and everyone loves to play. So I would always give them their money back, even if it meant taking it from my own pocket if the others did not agree. We only play $20 tourneys and twenty bucks isn't worth risking any hard feelings. |
