Gauging Interest - T Mold "Semi Customs"

Project: T Mold Semi Customs

There has been considerable interest in using the T Mold for custom chips.
BCC has a policy about the use of private molds which only allows us to
authorize chips made on this mold to existing chip color/spot combinations.
Meaning if we offer customs on this mold we would only be able to offer
exact color/spot combo's as the Samurai, Mardi Gras, Speakeay chips as these
are the only color setups Holdempokerchips currently has "registered" with BCC

To introduce a new chip setup we have to order an initial quantity of 20K.

Here is what we are thinking about doing:

1. "Registering" a new setup with BCC
2. This set up would be choosen by Chiptalk.net members
3. ChipTalk.net members could then design their own inlays and have BCC make their chips from this new setup
4. BCC would charge each member directly for chips and prevailing art fees just as any other custom order with BCC
5. Members would also be charged a fee for the mold usage.

This is all very preliminary and we would like feedback, questions, comments,
concerns, to take back to BCC and put together a formal presentation that will
be workable for BCC, HPC and especially you the chip buyer.

We will try to address questions once a day as to not clutter the thread, this
thread is for you to give your opinions as to what you would like/desire.

We have a lot of ideas in mind but want to hear what ChipTalk.net members think and would want from an offering such as this

Michael

Thumbs up Re: Gauging Interest - T Mold "Semi Customs"

I have a couple of questions:

Would we be limited to just the new setup or could you choose from the existing setups as well? (mix and match)

How many chip combinations would compose the new setup?

Is the mold use fee a per chip or per order?

Thanks,
I would be interested, I have been on the verge of ordering customs for awhile.

Re: Gauging Interest - T Mold "Semi Customs"

Fantastic news! My next chip set will be customs, and I really hope to have them made on the T-mold. With that said, here's my thoughts on what would make a fantastic chip line on that mold:

1) Spot Combos
  • 2-color: 8V, quarter pie, 614, 3U, 412
  • 3-color: 3-moon, 1T18
2) Inlay Size: 7/8" to 1 1/4"

3) New Base Colors: Radiant Red, Day Green

4) Inlay Artwork - allow different artwork on the front and back (as on the Samurai Palace chips) under the 5-denomination artwork fee

5) Ordering: done through HPC's site (rather than BCC)

Hopefully this is the kind of feedback you were looking for. I'd be happy to provide additional remarks if you'd find them helpful.

Minimum order amount? Number of different chips you can register in a set? (I know paulson typically limits you to 7)

I'd be interested in this. The T mold is one of my favourites (and certainly better than the flame mold).

Would you run the edgespots like a contest Michael? That to me would probably generate the most interest.

My wallet is all lubed up and ready.....

I think the key for most will be seeing the different combos available. I'll have some input as soon as I can get my head around this.

Would we have pretty much free reign on quarter pies, since you own the punch?

Re: Gauging Interest - T Mold "Semi Customs"

So, ChipTalk picks edgespots for a new setup which we then do a group buy with our own inlays meeting a min. order of 20K chips on the edgespots we pick only. Is that right?

What about after the group buy? If I'm inferring correctly, we'll be able to get a custom inlay on any chip already registered with BCC on the T-mold plus the Mardi Gras. As in the exact base color and edgespots on each chip they've already made for HPC plus what we come up with for the new setup. No mix and match or changing edgespot colors?

Do we have to be in on the group buy now to get semi-customs later? And I second the minimum order question?

Any idea on the timeframe? Order placed in 3, 6 months, a year??? Obviously, the voting would take a few months, at least, from what I've read of past group buys.

Sorry, I know these are questions and not feedback, but most of the above posts would be my feedback as well.

Oh yeah, how about shaped inlays?

This part I know about. You are correct in your inference. Its gotta be exactly the combinations HPC already has registered, but with a different inlay. It would be up to Michael though IF he wants to allow the samurai, mardi gras, or speakeasy registered designs to be used with a custom inlay, or if he's just going to allow the new CT designed set to use custom inlays. I'd suspect the latter is the case.

Re: Gauging Interest - T Mold "Semi Customs"

I love the thought of this Michael. I'm in the process of a BCC custom order, and may just end up doing a tourney set order and holding off to see what comes of this before I do a cash set order.

My feedback: How many people taking part will probably largely depend on the edgespots and color combos chosen. There are so many different tastes here, that will be a big deciding factor.
