Best I could do at home, I'll scan tomorrow at work if necessary. At first, I thought it was just damage from age (maybe felt transfer) but it's throughout the chip and rolling edge as well.

This is just how the Burt Co blanks in 'off white' turned out. Some have green flecks and some have blue. It was probably due to experimentation in different materials to replace the 'brass'. The flecks, as you probably know, are the added weight.

Thanks for the detailed response, I had no idea - very interesting information. Would you be willing to wager a guess as to the age of these chips?

Hope it's ok to bump this thread rather than start a new one. I read through the thread and the article first posted (great read, btw) but I'm looking for some more info on the NJ clay history. Here's why:

I own a cash set of NJ clays, put together over the last 18 mths or so and it includes the fractionals that are no longer being produced. Recently I picked up a bunch more off eBay, but they looked different than the ones I own. The white 25c chip isn't white - more an ivory - and it has brass flakes. The grey 50c chip matches in color, but also has the flakes. They're also just a slight bit thicker. Also, the inlay on the ones I have is a little smaller, and the image is not as sharp as those I just picked up.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about these. I've done some online research, searched chiptalk and asked the eBay seller, but haven't been able to find anything out. Any info would be appreciated.

Oh, and before I get grilled for not including a picture or scan, I tried, but can't get the detail I'm talking about in my post to show up well enough to include.

If you picked up bidznesman's ebay auctions this week for those chips, consider yourself lucky. Those are the original Nevada mold NJ clays.

I posted a link to that auction somewhere here on chiptalk this week and got a warning for inappropriate posting......

Yep, those were the ones I got! Hoping he posts some more when I get back from vacation next week.

They're very nice; I like them better than the ones in my set by far.
