Looking for History of Chips

I'm not a collector, but I am looking for a comprehensive history of casino/poker chips and cheques. Basically, I want to know how they came about, where, when and why. Who was responsible for the way we find them today and what the different types of chip we have today are and why.

I have found lots of sites that cover this information in a few paragraphs, but I'm looking for something a little more comprehensive.

Can anyone help?
