Rainbow Club [Gardena, CA]

The Rainbow Club was located in Gardena, California from 1945-1982. Gardena is a suburb of Los Angeles and has a great poker tradition. The cardroom at the Rainbow was a neighbor to the Monterey. The two clubs shared several of the same owners and a covered walkway connected the two facilities. Mike Caro has written about the Rainbow in some of his articles for Card Player.

I think the rack for the Rainbow on the small crown mold is one of the best ever. It has nice vibrant colors, and it's nostalgic to see five and 10-cent pieces. This set is easily in my top-5 racks of all-time. They're up there with the 'Can Can' girl chips from The Last Frontier, some of the Flamingo pieces on the H-mold, and the Golden Nugget rack on the house mold of the 1960s.

You can see the original pieces here:

BCC is issuing a new set of Rainbow Club commemorative chips shortly. The chips will bear a marking on the inlay to distinguish them from the originals.

Here's an image:

edit*, typed Old Frontier originally instead of Last Frontier by mistake.

Nice looking set of chips.
They should have made some $5's and $25's but that casino may not have had those, not sure.

There is a $5, it's the yellow one. Yellow was a popular choice for California card rooms. It was also common practice to make a $20 for $10/20 games. $25s were useless if the stakes weren't at $25/50 and if you are playing $1/2, or $1/3, a $20 works as well as a $25.

Re: Rainbow Club [Gardena, CA]

First update in 11 months, BCC has put these on hold a couple times due to casino orders and our own personal CT orders. I still want a 300-piece set for 2-7 triple draw home games. I think the .10 and .25 are my favorite, but I'd be buying the .25/.50./$1 or .50/$1/$5 set-up

Moving on , I have started collecting them and have three so far---

Re: Rainbow Club [Gardena, CA]

yeah, yeah, rub it in.

Yours are gorgeous, they look so clean.

I know which ones I'm missing and I've seen all of those, a few are on eBay right now, but I can't order any while I move.

I'm curious how much one of the .05 cent solids will end up costing me, they had one at Casino Connection, but I haven't seen any for sale.

I said earlier I liked the .25, but I meant to say the .50 was my favorite. (a daily space-out)
