Re: ASM July order LT & DG Blue Poll

Wait a sec, why is DG Blue going to have brass flakes?

Did Jim mention whether or not the brass flakes will affect the color of DG Blue? The reason I ask is that Bright White has no flakes and regular White has brass flakes, and the color difference is stark. I don't know if the other ingredients that make up the colors are different as well, but if the flakes are the reason for the color difference, DG Blue with brass might look totally different from the DG Blue/seafoam color I'm expecting (without flakes).

If this is the case, the brass flakes are a deal breaker.

Re: ASM July order LT & DG Blue Poll

The official word is they do not have to color pigmwent to make Lt.Blue.

"In the past we have found that dayglo blue if weighted looks very much like lt. blue"

So that is it in a nutshell.

I'd like to thank jim for doing this limited edition color for us.
It's a cool opportunity to have some truely unique chips.

If you guys would revise what you will be ordering I'd appreciate it if you would post it here.
If you think we need a new poll let me know --but it's getting close to July.
Might as well just confirm here.

Then why make it weighted? I don't understand the purpose. We asked if DG Blue and Light Blue could be made. A few months ago Jim said DG Blue could be made for 1000 chips. Yesterday we had enough buyers for 1000 DG Blue chips and 1400 Light Blue chips. The pigment for Light Blue is unavailable at this time. But then last night we hear the DG Blue will have brass flakes in it that will make it look more like Light Blue.

So the result is: no Light Blue AND no actual DG Blue? Just some color in the middle "very much like lt. blue" ??

I'll ask again:
Why does this batch need to have brass flakes in it?

Is the statement "very much like lt. blue" a comparison between what Light Blue and DG Blue look like all the time regardless of being weighted (much like our seafoam/not really that blue discussion?), or is that a way of saying the DG Blue color looks different-than-usual/more-like-Light-Blue because of the flakes? Does Jim have a pic of a weighted DG Blue chip?

Bottom line: Do the brass flakes change the appearance of the DG Blue chips that have been posted in this thread?

Re: ASM July order LT & DG Blue Poll

I'll go back to DG blue as apposed to Lt Blue then.

So an extra 100(ish) for seafoam.

The DG colors are lighter and more fragile then the brass weighted.
It is possible DG-B is even more so.
I would assume it is a quality issue and it would be in our best interest to go with the weighted version.
Although I do not see it stated anymore, I think I remember PCOL saying at the site that it was highly recommended to use DG only as spots and not to use DG for a chip's base color.
That may have changed over time but I still think it is good advise.

I think it is wise to accept in good grace what has been offered.
We asked and were told what could be done at this time.
I trust it was for a reason. I do not intend to question or haggle.
Maybe things will change, but for the July special this is it.

As for the sample pics we have, cant tell you. Maybe PCOL will get us a good shot of such a chip in the nextweek or so.
If you recall, they weighted the 1/2pie Avalon DG-Pink clay too --it looked fine.

So unless things change and we get LT Blue, I guess I'm out of luck. Still, it's cool of Jim to give us this offer. thanks

They also weighted the base DG Green for the $25 Avalon and it looked just fine too. I might be down for a rack of this special, uber limited edition as well. I could use some actual dimes for my cash set.

If that response is aimed at me, that sucks.

I don't doubt Jim has his reasons for using brass flakes. But this thread and the previous 3 threads discussing DG Blue have not mentioned brass flakes before now, so this is a new discussion, yes? The Avalon GB was before my time, so actually, no, I don't recall. I looked it up, though, and the weighted DG Pink indeed looks darker than regular DG Pink. It's true I can't tell a difference between weighted/non-weighted DG Green.

"I do not intend to question or haggle." Why not? We're not getting freebies here; this is still a business deal. A generous, special-offer business deal that I gratefully appreciate. But the deal has changed, hasn't it? My question involves how much this change affects the finished product, that's all. That's why I'm asking for more explanation or a sample pic.

I committed to buying 300 DG Blue chips. At the time, I only knew DG Blue chips to be available as non-weighted chips. These chips are now being offered as weighted chips. So the terms of the commitment have changed. Thus, there are new terms to commit to. Before doing so, I'd like a greater level of information. Is that unreasonable? IMO, it is not "wise to accept with good grace what has been offered" without adequate information about what is now being offered. All I'm asking for is information.

If anyone checks my posts they'll know I'm a staunch defender and cheerleader for ASM. IMO, they're the nuts. If anyone looks at my ASM orders they'll know I put my money where my mouth is. But I don't want any hurt feelings on Jim's part, anyone else committed to this GB, if I have to back out. I have valid reasons for doing so if the terms are changed beyond tolerable levels. And for the record, if weighted DG Blue chips have the same color as non-weighted DG Blue chips--then there's no problem. I'm in! But it is NOT unreasonable to ask for more information or clarification of new terms before forking over hard-earned $$$.

If I ordered a coupe, and the dealer said "I ordered you a convertible instead." Would it be wise to accept with good grace what is offered? Wouldn't I have the right to change my mind or at the very least ask questions without being deemed ungrateful?

Re: CLOSED: ASM July order LT & DG Blue Poll #1

Sorry man, didn't mean to rain on you.
If you want to pursue the Lt. Blue feel free.

This was not really a thread to lock in anyone. Just a feeler to see if it was worth asking for.
Jim noticed and gave answer. Now the situation has changed.

He also said they do not have the pigment for it (lt blue). I thought that was explanation enough.
As for the brass, he mentioned that doing so makes it look "bluer".
Probably trying to give us the best of both worlds.
