I realized, since I am curious about what others think about the relative merits of two different fonts in the Paulson hotstamp group buy, there should be no reason I can't post a poll to see what the larger group thinks. So look at the two chips below for font only and pick between what I call the "Roman" font and the "Saloon" font:
I must point out that I have absolutely no decision making authority or even direct influence whatsoever. This is JM's and Nugzy's? baby and they have to work with what Apache is willing to do based on its own commercial judgement. However if there were a big tilt towards the Roman font, Apache might reconsider its preference. I don't know where JM or Nugzy stand personally. They have been doing an excellent job of herding the cats on this one, but certainly deserve the right to insert their personal preference in dealing with Apache.
To be upfront, as I have said elsewhere, while I can settle for less than my own perfect everything (see my new found flexibility on the black chip!), the "saloon" font may be a deal breaker for me. In addition, I really LIKE the "Roman" one. While that should not impede any "groupthink" in another direction, if there just happened to be overwhelming support, maybe it would have some influence.
I think, given the choices he makes on his website, Apache has a personal preference for "old west" themed goods, but i think he has an even better appreciation for getting customers what they want. If the poll were better than 60% to 2/3rds in favor of the Roman font, he might go that way. To me this is more of a home game set of and not a fantasy casino, as such the more innocuous yet classic font seems to fit better.
Put it this way, if you were going to make your own currency, or label something of real value in your home, and you are over the age of 12, which font would you use? No offense on the age qualification, but I realized that my children WOULD probably pick the "saloon" font for their currency and labeling needs, so maybe this must makes me a curmudgeon!
