KOKOPELLIS CUSTOM CHIPS GROUP BUY POLL
UPDATED INFO & 2 FINAL CHIP PICS (11/11)
The group buy may start as early as this weekend. I'll start a new thread with instructions for ordering as soon as AceHigh is ready. Take a look at the FINAL CHIPS!
Per several PM & thread post requests, I am offering these up to gauge interest in a group buy. Please indicate your level of serious interest, as this will greatly effect the decision making of several Chiptalk members who are interested in the purchase.
More exact pricing will be determined by the final quantity we purchase. At worst you can plan on $.72 per chip, decreasing a few cents upon reaching 5000 chips and possibly better if it reaches 10,000 (not including shipping).
ABOUT THE DESIGN
The figure you probably recognize in the designs is the Native American kokopelli:
"...widely held beliefs that Kokopelli was a fertility symbol, roving minstrel or trader, rain priest, hunting magician, trickster, and seducer of maidens..."
Basically, he's the "PIMP" of the Native American culture. He is viewed as very good luck... therein lies the poker connection.
THE MANUFACTURER
I discovered
AceHighSupply here in my home state of NC while looking at the Tikis which Puzzlemonkey had manufactured there. They are a new player in the ceramic market and currently seem to be producing chips similar to NevadaJacks in texture and size, with a few notable differences. Check this
TIKIS THREAD for several reviews.
Having compared the Tikis & my own kokopelli "test chips" to my set of NevadaJacks Skulls & Bounty chips, my personal evaluation is as follows:
(1) Acehigh chips are a tiny bit lighter (around .3 to .5 grams lighter)
(2) Acehigh have more vivid colors, and image clarity seems to be better as well
(3) Acehigh thickness is somewhat smaller when comparing stacks of say 10 or so chips.
(4) Acehigh is over $.20 cheaper per chip compared to the NJ price
(5) Although I have not worked with Nevadajacks on a custom order, I can say that Steve at AceHigh could not have provided better service than what I have received in the past few weeks- extremely professional, prompt responses, and a sincere desire to get things perfect prior to printing
THE DESIGN PROCESS
You will notice that many suggestions were incorporated to bring us to the final design. AceHigh produced a stack of red rolling edges, as well as 2 different test runs of front faces, mailing me the final set of "test" chips.
The first pic depcits the final chips which were test printed, with 3 minor changes that are forthcoming:
(1) center the 5 between the koko figure and the wrap (2) adjust the 100 glow so that more black appears toward the center (3) the 25 kokopelli eye will be filled to match the others
Holding the actual chips in my hand, the colors shown are very accurate, although the 500 is much closer to turquoise than it appearsin the jpeg.
Chip width Comparison (thanks spicychili!).... shows how 20 Chipcos stack in the chip rack compared to 20 AceHigh Chips (these are Tikis).
GROUP BUY & ORDERING INFO
Per several PM & thread post requests, I am offering these up to gauge interest in a group buy. Please indicate your level of serious interest, as this will influence the decision making of several Chiptalk members who are interested in the purchase.
This will be my primary tournament set and will consist of:
$5, $25, $100, $500, and $1000 denominations.
More exact pricing will be determined by the final quantity we purchase. At worst you can plan on $.72 per chip, decreasing a few cents upon reaching 5000 chips and possibly better if it reaches 10,000 (not including shipping).
As of right now, I believe AceHigh will handle the financial transactions and shipping (which should save us paypal fees & time).
Also, the design will stay in my possession, so that any future orders could still be made by contacting me. AceHigh will not offer these to the public.
Upon Posting your level of interest, you may want to reply in the thread as well if your response is dependent on certain factors.
