American Beauties - Pinups Group Buy - [group buy closed]

The group buy is over, but these chips can be purchased at retail price at many outlets. Two sponsors sell these chips:

NevadaJacks.net

HoldemPokerChips.com

Original post:

Use the "ORDER NOW" Form to buy your chip set

A Sexy New Chip Set:

We are building a unique set of chips with modern yet classic styled pinup girls. The chips with be produced by Nevada Jack using their casino grade composite chips. The original paintings are the highest of quality, and done by one of the masters of American fantasy art, Greg Hildebrandt.

What I was looking for in pinup art was something that could be both classic and very sexy. I wanted the style of a 1940's pinup, but with a touch of modern raciness. I wanted a set of chips that you'd love to look at but are classy enough to use at just about any home game.

I think we found the perfect art for this project, The hard part was narrowing down the 35 choices to eight or so. By eliminating all the nude paintings, we got it down to roughly 18. Now we will choose 8-12 of Greg's paintings for the final set. Each chip will have a different girl and will be a differently themed color.

The Girls:

These are the original paintings that we had to choose from. There are some very nice ones that you won't see here because they are nudes. Visit Spiderwebart.com for more "explicit" images.

Here are the final design mockups that we made prior to printing. The over-bright images were necessary to get the proper prints on the actual chips. Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

About Greg:

Original paintings are done by Greg Hildebrandt. Greg has started the "American Beauties" series in his retirement. Before retiring he worked closely with his brother Tim on art and film since the 1960's. He is famous for work on Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel Comics and more. We have an exclusive contract to use Greg's American Beauties on high end poker chips!

Here are some great paintings by the Hildebrandts:

Spiderwebart Gallery, owned by Greg Hildebrandt, is the exclusive representative of Greg and Tim Hildebrandt's Artwork.
They are extremely proud to offer his original paintings, sketches and giclée prints for your viewing pleasure and for purchase.

Good call, I was waiting for someone to care enough to notice.

See that chips stack? I had NJ print the RWB chip both ways, four with the horizontal stripes and four vertical. They told me that there are several reasons form the printing process side that said we can't do it like you see in that mockup.

Me being me, I put looks above technical issues, so I strongly requested samples. Turns out I changed my mind once I got them. The horizontal stripes where not as cool in RL as I expected, you never can really see both red and white at the same time. And those technical issues were apparent as well.

The vertical striped chip just looks better, both as a single chip and in stacks.

I also was one of the silent minority that kinda liked CaptLego's idea. Not complaining, as either way looks great, just curious about the technical reasons cited. The only technical restriction I remember seeing mentioned here is that they can't do centerline registration, but CaptLego's stripes spanned the entire width and didn't need centering. Just doesn't seem much different than the working design - the red and white bands just extend over more of the circumference of the chip.

Btw, I'll also add my hearty thanks for your vision in getting these chips to the finish line! A truly phenomenal set. Thank you Ten and any/all of your design collaborators.

BTW, I was kinda disappointed the 10%r doesn't get some credit in their description
Speaking of breakdowns: what did you wind up getting? Did you see the post I put on yesterday with my planned 1400 chip setup? If yes, what do you think of it? If no, would you mind checking it out and letting me know what you think of it? How many questions can I put in one post? How annoying is a list of endless questions? How excited are you to get your 1100 chips? How lucky are you to be one of the first to take the plunge? Do you think Nevada Jack’s will fill orders in the order they were received?

Wow, I am suddenly really dizzy. In all seriousness, what do you think of my 1400 chip plan?
At first your breakdown (what with 3 sets and all) seemed a little overwhelming. I did see the logic of your thinking, but I wonder how it will pan out in practice. Some friends of mine play w/ non-denoms, and I have a hard time keeping track in their games. I figured to put together 50 sample sets for co-workers, friends, family. that will leave me w/ 100 ea of all but the redwhiteblue (which will be in the sample sets) so: 150 ea all exc RWB, 50 RWB. I'm hoping to afford more, which i will use to flesh out sets for myself and any of my friends who are interested (I'm offering a couple friends - at cost) My only concern; having the chips in hand before the group buy closes would really enable me to show people what these are. (pictures only go so far)

ditto, dimperdoo....me 2.......

BaNaNa
I'm wondering wether holdempokerchips will feature them. I'm sure mspatton will point the credit in the right direction for his coordination.

I already have that figured out, and it's nice they accept Paypal as well.

My obstacle is entering my shipping address, since it's outside of the US. Which is the only country listed in the drop-down box. And no non-US state/province entry. The billing page lets you enter in proper values... I hope that gets fixed before the end of next week so I can order them without worrying about it being sent to some random US address!
It's a shame the world is the way it is. It shouldn't be any more difficult to ship to you than to me, but I'm afraid it is. It would be nice if a large importer (or several in different countries) got wind of this type thing and helped out. -probably costy though..

Break down of 500 piece set

Just curious what a good break down of chips would be for a 500 peice set. I usually play with 5 or 6 other guys. Also, how do you specify what chips you want? Thanks in advance.

you tell them your chip breakdown in a note on your order - kinda like adding notes to an e-bay buy.

the quandry w/ these ABs is basically "I want them all, but 2 or 3 colors makes a very practical set" w/ 500 chips you might get 150 of your 3 smaller colors and 50 of a big color for color-ups. the 3-color option would be 200/200/100 (ish) You may notice my breakdown is not too practical - it's sort of a 1000 chip sample set. I like to figure if you have 10 players it would be nice if their breakdown includes a stack of 20 of their small unit - plus a smaller stack or two of higher denom chips. (that makes 200 of one color a good idea - your small unit)

There are some VERY detailed considerations of denom breakdowns here and on other forums (2+2 comes to mind)

Can't post pictures until I get the chips. I'm expecting to get them early next week.

BTW, I won't actually be posting the pictures. They'll go to Ten and he'll handle it from there.

I like Wylecoyo's plan, in fact I'm modeling my lineup after it. At least 100 of every chip, with my favorite chips getting the lowest denoms and thus a bit higher quantities (200 max). I'm even departing a bit from traditional casino color progression - I figure a nice color printout of the design mockups with assigned denoms will help to alleviate confusion.

Micro-denoms will be 0.05, 0.10, 0.25, etc.; can also be used as x10 (i.e. 5, 10, 25, etc.) for tournament play or high stakes cash game. We'll have quite a bit of limit cash play as well, in which case we won't even need denoms, each chip will be one small blind unit.

Can also pull out any 4 colors at any time depending on current mood, and arbitrarily assign the standard 5/25/100/500 tournament denoms (same idea as W's tourney sets #1 and #2).

I'm most concerned with having a complete set for artistic merit, so I'm not too hung up on getting absolutely perfect playability or absolutely perfect denom ratios. As long as it looks great and is halfways usable, I'm happy.
