American Beauties - Pinups Group Buy - [group buy closed]

The group buy is over, but these chips can be purchased at retail price at many outlets. Two sponsors sell these chips:

NevadaJacks.net

HoldemPokerChips.com

Original post:

Use the "ORDER NOW" Form to buy your chip set

A Sexy New Chip Set:

We are building a unique set of chips with modern yet classic styled pinup girls. The chips with be produced by Nevada Jack using their casino grade composite chips. The original paintings are the highest of quality, and done by one of the masters of American fantasy art, Greg Hildebrandt.

What I was looking for in pinup art was something that could be both classic and very sexy. I wanted the style of a 1940's pinup, but with a touch of modern raciness. I wanted a set of chips that you'd love to look at but are classy enough to use at just about any home game.

I think we found the perfect art for this project, The hard part was narrowing down the 35 choices to eight or so. By eliminating all the nude paintings, we got it down to roughly 18. Now we will choose 8-12 of Greg's paintings for the final set. Each chip will have a different girl and will be a differently themed color.

The Chips!

Nevada Jacks works wonders, printing chips fast! Here are photos of the actual chips! Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

Ordering Chips:

The chips are all going to be shipped by Nevada Jacks only. Here are the current order details:
  • 100 minimum total order
  • 25 minimum increment per denomination
  • Shipping costs to be determined by retailer at order time

The Girls:

These are the original paintings that we had to choose from. There are some very nice ones that you won't see here because they are nudes. Visit Spiderwebart.com for more "explicit" images.

Here are the final design mockups that we made prior to printing. The over-bright images were necessary to get the proper prints on the actual chips. Click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

About Greg:

Original paintings are done by Greg Hildebrandt. Greg has started the "American Beauties" series in his retirement. Before retiring he worked closely with his brother Tim on art and film since the 1960's. He is famous for work on Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel Comics and more. We have an exclusive contract to use Greg's American Beauties on high end poker chips!

Here are some great paintings by the Hildebrandts:

Spiderwebart Gallery, owned by Greg Hildebrandt, is the exclusive representative of Greg and Tim Hildebrandt's Artwork.
They are extremely proud to offer his original paintings, sketches and giclée prints for your viewing pleasure and for purchase.

*Note: While this is a collaborative effort among many poker chip enthusiasts, I retain all rights for the designs and decisions. Polls are for gathering opinions and usually the results are followed, but I can change designs at any time. - Greg Cagle

I know what you mean. I think that the reds are so zingy in all the chips that contain it, that the other colours look more washed out in contrast.

Before the actual chip pictures came in, I was just going to go for the standard four colour breakdown that i use (red, green, black, purple) but now I'm not sure....It was always going to be difficult to leave out the red/white/blue chip anyway, so that might be the £5 chip instead of the red one....

What I would say though is that if you saw the chips without the mockups to compare them to, you would be very happy with the way they turned out. I trry to think more about the way that a pile of these chips will look like on my card table, rather than trying to examine them in minute detail. Get a couple of handfuls of them and spread them around on the table top, and they will look awesome I'm sure.

Now....if only the manufacturer would actually answer their phone or return my emails, then I could work out how much shipping the bloody things is going to cost!

Seriously though. Regarding chip counts and denoms.....This is what I am thinking for a 600 set. Mostly we do T300 and T500 and .50/$1 games.

Pink = .25 total 100
Blue = $1 total 150
Red = $5 total 150
Green = $25 total 100
Black = $100 total 50
Purple = $500 total 50

I might swap the blue and purple, but I was trying to keep a color scheme similiar to basic casino colors. What you guys think????

Mold dimple

Greg,

From your photo of all of the chips stacked up I thought I could make out 3 mold dimples on the edges (one each of the blue, red, and orange chips). Do you have any comment on how noticable they are? I think if I can only spot 3 on 64 chips that I can see half the edges of, that is a great accomplishment by NJ!

Later,
Bruce

Red Chip

I hear ya. It's just a shame that we couldn't get the red chip to be more consistent with the others. The chips have a great color theme going. if the red background were slightly less bright it would be great.

In all my excitement I forgot to mention: I think they all turned out great and would like to express my overwhelming gratitude to everyone who worked to make these a reality. I have already spent a huge amount of time admiring the sample pictures and, although I can recognize the supposed negative characteristics pointed out in the preceding posts, I am TOTALLY satisfied and honestly never pictured the final product coming out any better. I was completely happy with the mockup chips as well, but we all need to remember they were exactly that: mockups. I never dreamed the colors and saturation would come out anywhere as close to the mockups as they did. Are they exactly the same – no, but they are as great none the less. As close to perfect as anyone could hope for.

Happiness with final product:

Happiness with having to wait another month or so to get my hands on them:
