Chips: 6,883 | | | Trademarks/Pharaohs 'Thickness' issues any one concerned that our precious Pharoahs will have the same chip thickness differences that the Trademarks seem to be experiencing?
seems a quality product like Paulson wouldnt have these apparent QC issues, and im slightly concerned that stacks of Pharoahs wont line up.
anyone feel my pain?

Chips: 1,845 | | If a stack of 44 and 45 come out to the same height, you're talking about a roughly .003" difference between chips. I hope you're right, Ten, but I don't know if .003" is big enough to pick up visually or with a fingernail test when comparing single chips.
I wish I knew what this process looks like, but it sounds to me like they have dedicated machines for certain denoms. It can't be just one mold or this issue wouldn't show up. There could be differences in the molds between machines, so chips off of one machine come up thinner than the other mold. Either way, it's disappointing. .003" isn't much to the eye, but it's a pretty big goof in mold tooling if the molds are supposed to be identical.
Fingers crossed. |

Chips: 711 | | | Thickness Issues. I am definitely intrigued by the thickness issue. About the same time as I finished reading all of the posts here(and fully realizing that I have over 2500 Pharos coming) I remembered that I had two stacks of 20 Paulson Roulette chips from the Riverfront Casino in St. Louis in my desk that had never seen an ounce of table action. Anxious to see if there was a difference in these chips, which are probably about 5 years old, but again, never used - I quickly whipped them out and stacked them on my hardwood desk.
SURPRISE - there was a difference in the stack height! - about 1/3 chip difference on a 20 chip stack. So, some of this isn't new to Paulson chips, even the one's that have gone to actual casino's in the past.
Just sharing some information that I have available - we wish the tolerance was lower, but I don't think it has been for at least 5 years now.
I was able to drag my fingernail across the "short stack", then subsequently peel the top chip off of the "tall" stack with no problem. The difference also was felt very easily, I didn't have to "search" for a height difference at all.
Bummer, but nothing new I guess.

vai777 posted that he has 1000 chips of the new Trademark mold and that all his denoms stack evenly. I invited him over to post some pics of his stacks.

Chips: 711 | | | Sounds good, I have a couple of other colors of the same roulette chips from the same casino and they match up to one of the two other stacks. Just a slight difference is all I'm saying.
Tolerances, no matter how small, add up and will cause a stack height difference. Everyone just hopes it's not too much, which I don't think it will be.
Looking real forward to getting the new chips as ever as the days drone on until delivery.

| Come on now, are you questioning the accuracy of the classic fingernail test? My fingernails have been calibrated for the smallest of tolerances to the level of, wait... oh crap, I forgot I clipped my nails on Sunday! Nevermind. |

Chips: 2,131 | | | 2005 Paulson James Bond Chip Thickness OK, I have 1500 of the 2005 Paulson James Bonds (purchased last month), and now all this has gotten me curious. . . actually, I'm surprised I haven't tested them this way until now:
1. I have all colors except white (i.e. blue, red, green, black, purple, orange).
2. using stacks of 40 chips, I compared stack heights. From thickest to thinnest, they are: Red, Purple, Orange, Black, Blue, Green.
3. The difference between the tallest (Red) and shortest (Green) stack was about 1/3 chip thickness.
4. The height difference between the black, blue and green stacks was negligible. The Red and Purple were the most noticeably taller stacks.
So it seems that non-uniform thickness is nothing new, but the Trademarks have a greater range of thicknesses:
