prize and bounty chip group buy?

My wife suggested a group buy of "prize chips." Probably chipcos that say something like poker tournament winner, or runner-up, etc. I think she has been watching Celebrity Poker Showdown and likes the "golden chip" they get when they win.

If we got 20ish people to put up $30-40 each, we could get 30-40 winner's chips each (enough for a lifetime or at least several years). The chips would have to be fairly generic, but it might work.

What do you think?

Okay people, what do you think?
Vanquish, Thanks for picking this up. I'll be in for around 10 of each.

Ideas I like so far,

Bounty,
The J5 mockup of the wanted poster looked great.
43mm

Coin
Someone had mentioned putting a space on the coin where we could print out own lables to put our own name. So epoxy on that part would be bad.

Let`s drop the "dead or alive" on the chip and replace it with BOUNTY paid on delivery. Also the epoxy is to keep the coin new looking.

So the chip would say "WANTED"
<------picture of wanted man
"BOUNTY"
"PAID ON DELIVERY"
"SEE YOUR LOCAL SHERIFF"

Now i`m not sure how this would look or even if it is possible to put that much text on the chip but others here will be able to tweak or correct what i am thinking about.---------just an idea so don`t get to upset and start ranting,i would like to see this BOUNTY & PRIZE CHIP thing happen.

Hey johnny five, give us a heads up on the chip size issue. I thought chipco still did 43mm 44mm and 47mm size chips in the pro tech line.

I think we run the risk of being cheesy with the more text that is added. But I like simpler designs in general.

A lot of times less really is more.

How about "Bounty" in addition to whatever graphics are decided upon?

Like these. I prefer the second one, but I'm not crazy about the font.

Nope, it must have been stuck in my head from early-in-the-thread discussion. Okay, back to 39mm ceramic chips for the bounty chips!

I do like the idea of each of us being able to customize a group buy purchase, but I would only want to do anything if it fit the look of the coin. My personal opinion is that putting a paper label on a glossy/polished chunk of brass will detract from the overall look and give the whole thing a cheap feel. Not the kind of thing I'd feel good about giving out as a prize at one of my tournaments.

However, I do think that it might work well to have an area of the coin be blank or framed in some way to allow for custom engraving. This would allow the customization everyone desires while keeping with the classy, polished look I'm going for. If there is a design that will look good with a 1/2" blank circle in the middle, then we can all have our cake and eat it to. The label-heads get their labels, and I get my engraving. I'm not promising anything at this point though. It is my goal to develop a coin that looks good in its own right. In the end, there will probably be mockups for a few different options and maybe even a poll or two.

I agree with you that the fewer words the better. I think that "Bounty" and maybe, maybe something like "Wanted" would look best.

But I've gotta say I'm a big fan of the westernish theme and none of the above designs really get my engine going (but I am a fan of the background and border on the last one).

edit: I think I like "Bounty - Paid on Delivery" better than any variation on "Wanted."

How about the word "BOUNTY" stamped across the picture of the cowboy in the earlier idea?

No wanted, dead or alive, or reward, or dollar amount, just BOUNTY stamped over the guy like a cancelled check.

Keep the ideas coming. I'm going to work on some mockups over the weekend.

Johnny5 - Are you willing to share your original artwork (as in your Photoshop/Macromedia/whatever file) with me?
