ASM (pc.com) Group Buy **CLOSED***

35,471 (118.24% of total needed) chips ordered and paid for as of 6/15/05.
12,496 plain
22,975 spotted

*The ASM group buy is now CLOSED. I will be placing the total order on 6/16.

BACKGROUND
ASM (Atlantic Standard Molding) have been making casino chips for over 70 years, including many of the old time casino chips in 1940s Las Vegas. Currently they sell quality clay chips online through http://www.pokerchips.com and allows buyers to pick their own color combinations. This group buy has secured a substantial discount (through volume purchase) of their custom color, non-inlay chips with the Horse Head Mold. We are limited to 15 different color combinations for the chips with edge spots and 4 plain (non edge-spot) chips. Over a 2 week period, members of this forum have discussed and voted on colors for each of the 19 different chip offered. These are the chips offered:

Plains

Grey, Imperial Blue, Pink, Orange (left to right)

Spotted

White/Blue, Blue/White, Mandarin Red/Arc Yellow, Mandarin Red/DayGlo Yellow, Mandarin Red/Imperial Blue, Green/DayGlo Peach, Green/DayGlo Yellow, Green/Yellow, Black/DayGlo Green, Black/DayGlo Pink, Black/DayGlo Peach, Lavender/DayGlo Pink, Purple/Arc Yellow, Purple/Grey, Yellow/Black (left to right from first row to second row)

The traditional casino chip body colors are White/Blue for $1, Red for $5, Green for $25, Black for $100, Purple for $500, and Yellow for $1000. If you need help in choosing colors, feel free to ask for help by posting on this thread. We would be glad to help.

REASONS FOR GROUP BUY
1) Pokerchips.com offers the same HH mold spotted chips for $0.50/chip and DO NOT OFFER the plain HH mold chips to the public. The group buy pricing averages a 15% discount over those prices. These prices are distributor prices, it is absolutely the rock-bottom price ASM offers.
2) The biggest advantage is delivery time. Pokerchips.com takes over a period of 3 months to fill an order, whether it has an inlay or not. We have been guaranteed a 4-6 week production time.

PRICING
Spotted chips - $0.43/chip
Plain chips - $0.33/chip

** Please note these prices reflect shipping-to-me expenses and in accepting credit card payments through PayPal. This is purely a non-profit group buy.
** The above prices are firm and apply to everyone, REGARDLESS of your payment method.
*** In case you are wondering if PC.com will provide extra chips along with the order, the answer from them is "yes, but not many." I will pass along all extra chips proportionally to the buyers.

SHIPPING
Shipping rate for the US is calculated via the following method:
$11 for the first 100 chips, $0.70 for each additional 25 chips.
Example: For a 500 chip order, shipping will be: $11 + (400/25)*$0.70 = $22.20

For Canadian orders, please add a flat $3 to the above rates. Please note that I will not mark this as a gift on customs forms and will state the actual value. Any other international orders please email me with your order for a shipping quote (guo.shou@gmail.com).

* The chips will be shipped carefully packaged and padded with insurance.

PAYMENT DETAILS
You have the following options. Please note the different deadlines.

1) PayPal (Deadline: Midnight EST 6/12/05)
Pay through PayPal (http://www.paypal.com), one of the safest ways to pay and receive money online via a credit card or direct bank transfer (if you have questions on setting up an account, email me at guo.shou@gmail.com and I will be glad to help). Payments should be made to guo.shou@gmail.com. Note that I will ship to the address on your PayPal account unless you tell me otherwise.

2) Money Order/Cashier's Check (Deadline: Postmarked and in the mail by 6/3/05)
MOs and Cashier's Checks are ok, but please note the different deadline. I must receive it in the mail by 6/10/05. I will email you my address if you choose to pay via this method.

3) Personal Checks (Deadline: Postmarked and in the mail by 5/31/05)
Personal checks need time to clear, and I only offer that as an option if you send it out immediately (please note deadline). I will email you my address if you choose to pay via this method.

SAMPLE CHIP ORDERS
SAMPLE chip orders are accepted, but there is a 25 chip minimum. You may mix & match whichever colors you like (e.g. 5 pink, 15 yellow/chocolate, 3 grey, 2 white/blue). Shipping will be $5 per 50 chips ordered (if you order 10 chips, shipping is $5. If you order 55 chips, shipping is $10).

My intentions are fully to get this moving as quickly as possible, as there are no arguments on color combos, inlays, etc. Once I have interest for 20,000 chips I will open up the buy. If by this Sunday we have that much interest I will start the buy early next week.
Might they lower the price if we hit 30K or even up to 40K or 50K?

A little more seriously, though, and this still feels like a silly question: is it possible to get one design that does NOT have edgespots? Like if I want to get a standard breakdown (white/red/green etc) and have solid orange high value chips, would that work?
I asked about that SEVERAL times, and the answer from her is no. They only allow non-inlay edge spot HH molds. I wanted to have a non edge spot chip (just to mix it up) for the lowest denomination as well, but they wouldn't allow it on the HH mold chip. The reason Cathy gave me was for security reasons. I think they're afraid you're gonna buy some solid chips and paint on the edge spots to match some casino's chips, stick on a label, and cash them in.
This makes sense -- many of the casinos and clubs used hot stamped, non-spotted horseheads.

So I just called PC.com and spoke with Cathy. It's confirmed that the spotted HH mold DOES NOT have a recessed inlay.

She will speak to the owner and get back to me on further pricing details as well as if they can make plain (no edge spot) HH mold chips for me as well.

Wow, now I REALLY want the non-spotted chips... and I suddenly developed an interest in hotstamping machines. I don't know what it is... Can we have a group buy for a machine? Might be worth the investment.

I saw one for sale on ebay recently for about $250. I still think the hotstamped chips look cheesy though.

A lot of people dont like the look, but it provides security and gives them an authentic look. Most of the illegal clubs used hot stamped chips + most casinos use them for tournaments.

Nostalgic maybe, but they don't look authentic at all to me. In fact, the tournaments I've played in at Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun (which has since closed its poker room, dumb!) used plain chips without so much as edgespots. They were pretty ugly. The green was like an olive drab. Yuk

The first tournament I played was at Binion's Horseshoe in downtown Vegas, and I expected to use "real casino chips." Turned out they were really cheap looking BJ chips (with suits design and hotstamped in middle) that were like 5grams in weight with no edge spots. I was pretty disappointed. I think "real casino" chips just means whichever chip will do the job the cheapest while providing reasonable security.

And oh yea, I busted out A4o all-in on button (everyone folded before me) against big blind K5o. Dude hit a set on flop.

I went to vegas two weeks ago and played the Golden Nugget tourney twice. They use hot stamped paulson, no edge spots. I swiped a 25 chip because I had 3 and they were about to do a race off. I still won the race with 2 chips!

Since they don't have to worry as much about security for tournaments, they don't usually bother with chips that have inlays.
