ASM (pc.com) Group Buy **CLOSED***

35,471 (118.24% of total needed) chips ordered and paid for as of 6/15/05.
12,496 plain
22,975 spotted

*The ASM group buy is now CLOSED. I will be placing the total order on 6/16.

BACKGROUND
ASM (Atlantic Standard Molding) have been making casino chips for over 70 years, including many of the old time casino chips in 1940s Las Vegas. Currently they sell quality clay chips online through http://www.pokerchips.com and allows buyers to pick their own color combinations. This group buy has secured a substantial discount (through volume purchase) of their custom color, non-inlay chips with the Horse Head Mold. We are limited to 15 different color combinations for the chips with edge spots and 4 plain (non edge-spot) chips. Over a 2 week period, members of this forum have discussed and voted on colors for each of the 19 different chip offered. These are the chips offered:

Plains

Grey, Imperial Blue, Pink, Orange (left to right)

Spotted

White/Blue, Blue/White, Mandarin Red/Arc Yellow, Mandarin Red/DayGlo Yellow, Mandarin Red/Imperial Blue, Green/DayGlo Peach, Green/DayGlo Yellow, Green/Yellow, Black/DayGlo Green, Black/DayGlo Pink, Black/DayGlo Peach, Lavender/DayGlo Pink, Purple/Arc Yellow, Purple/Grey, Yellow/Black (left to right from first row to second row)

The traditional casino chip body colors are White/Blue for $1, Red for $5, Green for $25, Black for $100, Purple for $500, and Yellow for $1000. If you need help in choosing colors, feel free to ask for help by posting on this thread. We would be glad to help.

REASONS FOR GROUP BUY
1) Pokerchips.com offers the same HH mold spotted chips for $0.50/chip and DO NOT OFFER the plain HH mold chips to the public. The group buy pricing averages a 15% discount over those prices. These prices are distributor prices, it is absolutely the rock-bottom price ASM offers.
2) The biggest advantage is delivery time. Pokerchips.com takes over a period of 3 months to fill an order, whether it has an inlay or not. We have been guaranteed a 4-6 week production time.

PRICING
Spotted chips - $0.43/chip
Plain chips - $0.33/chip

** Please note these prices reflect shipping-to-me expenses and in accepting credit card payments through PayPal. This is purely a non-profit group buy.
** The above prices are firm and apply to everyone, REGARDLESS of your payment method.
*** In case you are wondering if PC.com will provide extra chips along with the order, the answer from them is "yes, but not many." I will pass along all extra chips proportionally to the buyers.

SHIPPING
Shipping rate for the US is calculated via the following method:
$11 for the first 100 chips, $0.70 for each additional 25 chips.
Example: For a 500 chip order, shipping will be: $11 + (400/25)*$0.70 = $22.20

For Canadian orders, please add a flat $3 to the above rates. Please note that I will not mark this as a gift on customs forms and will state the actual value. Any other international orders please email me with your order for a shipping quote (guo.shou@gmail.com).

* The chips will be shipped carefully packaged and padded with insurance.

PAYMENT DETAILS
You have the following options. Please note the different deadlines.

1) PayPal (Deadline: Midnight EST 6/12/05)
Pay through PayPal (http://www.paypal.com), one of the safest ways to pay and receive money online via a credit card or direct bank transfer (if you have questions on setting up an account, email me at guo.shou@gmail.com and I will be glad to help). Payments should be made to guo.shou@gmail.com. Note that I will ship to the address on your PayPal account unless you tell me otherwise.

2) Money Order/Cashier's Check (Deadline: Postmarked and in the mail by 6/3/05)
MOs and Cashier's Checks are ok, but please note the different deadline. I must receive it in the mail by 6/10/05. I will email you my address if you choose to pay via this method.

3) Personal Checks (Deadline: Postmarked and in the mail by 5/31/05)
Personal checks need time to clear, and I only offer that as an option if you send it out immediately (please note deadline). I will email you my address if you choose to pay via this method.

SAMPLE CHIP ORDERS
SAMPLE chip orders are accepted, but there is a 25 chip minimum. You may mix & match whichever colors you like (e.g. 5 pink, 15 yellow/chocolate, 3 grey, 2 white/blue). Shipping will be $5 per 50 chips ordered (if you order 10 chips, shipping is $5. If you order 55 chips, shipping is $10).

Hey ledavatar any word from them whether they would put a rush on these orders? I wouldnt mind getting in on this. I'm not really worried about the centers being recessed, the labels I put on my circle/squares are working out just fine and are thin enough not to interfere with stacking in any way.

Evidence that there is a small recession on the HH chip "About the sized of sheet of paper".

Now considering joining back in on the group buy.

I called ASM and ordered a set of free samples the other day. Probably gonna see for myself and then make the decision. Let's hope the samples don't take forever to come.

Yea I had a small inkling that maybe PC.com didn't know exactly what they were talking about w/ the recessed inlays. Joshua will send me some of his chips so that I may see them for myself and I will post pics and measurements when they come.

I'm still ordering a set of customs with inlays.
I had read a review on pokerchipreviews.com that mentioned the same thing, but when my sample set arrived I found NO durability issues. My brother and I dropped them repeatedly from over 8 feet onto a hard tile kitchen floor, then onto concrete. Then we threw them against the concrete to really check them out. None broke, only minor chipping or flaking on the edges. After that we were confident they would be fine for any kind of game play, and promptly ordered a set of 1000.

*boggle*

Is it possible that there is any variance in the process to give these mixed results? I mean, if it's recessed to the point mentioned I'll obviously reconsider.

Jim, the owner of Poker Chips Online, called me today regarding our inquiries. I think he is by far the nicest person I've ever talked to in the industry with extensive knowledge about his competitors and the historical development of poker chips in the US.

There's a lot to digest, and some new information and development within our order - good news and bad news (they're sort of inter-related)

1) EDGE-SPOTTED CHIP PRICE REMAINS AT $0.40
I tried my best to convince Jim for further lowering the price if we upsize the order to 50k-100k, but he explained to me that the current production capacity is limited, and that it would not be any more profitable for them to produce more chips. Currently, chip prices are still $0.40 at 20k chips ordered.

2) PLAIN (NON EDGE-SPOTTED) HH MOLD CHIPS
I have talked Jim into giving us plain (non edge-spotted) HH mold chips. I think this is great in the sense that we now have some variation. In a set, we can have lower denoms such as the white/blue or red be plain and the higher denoms spotted.

We been quoted $0.30/chip for 10,000 chips, any lower they would be $0.35/chip. Keep in mind that PC.com had NEVER offered the plain HH mold chips, so this is a first!!!

3) CUSTOM COLORS & PRODUCTION TIMING
There seems to be some sort of misunderstanding on my conversations with Cathy to have the 20% discounted pricing AND one custom color combos per 100 chips ordered. Jim explained that the reason why they take so long to deliver chips is because each color combo takes so long time to set up in their equipment that they usually make 1 color combo per day. The discounted pricing is really based on the idea that we would have a limited amount of color combos to make it reasonably as profitable for PC.com to give it. So if we had 100 different color combos, it would be the same for PC.com as if they had a bunch of separate orders, not to mention there would be an extremely LONG waiting time in production. However, the GOOD NEWS is that if we get the # of color combos down to 15, Jim promised a 4-6 week production period. I think that is awesome, given the history of lag time with PC.com. If we placed the order on 5/23, we may get it as early as 6/20. Of course, I understand that there may be some issues with individual choice among color combos, but given the history of buys, we have always reached some kind of consensus, and we do have room for flexibility. But keep in mind that the less color combos we have, the FASTER delivery time will be. We should start discussing the color combos immediately.

4) HH MOLD HAS RECESSED CENTER
Jim confirmed that the HH mold indeed has a recessed center. Keep in mind that he is the OWNER of ASM and if I had to believe anyone, I would believe him. The only question is how deep?! I think he said 8-10 thousandth of an inch (not sure on this)? He says the recession is not that deep and there are tiny variations from chip to chip (which I think is to be expected). Again, I will see how deep when I receive the chips from Joshua.
