"The Fedora Club" Group Buy - Gauging Interest ...

:: ON HOLD ::

As I am a DESIGNER and not as much an ILLUSTRATOR, I will often use public domain and second-hand clip art in my designs. I have had this fedora image in my library for years and created this chip around it. In taking my own advice, that I gave recently, I decided I should probably document the sources of the imagery that are used on my chips in an effort to avoid issues of copyright or just ethical misjudgment.

In my research last night I stumbled across this poster for the movie "D1ck Tracy" (Warren Beatty, Madonna ... HATED IT!! )

EGHADS!! That appears to be the same Fedora that is used on "The Fedora Club" chip. Especially with the yellow!

To avoid any possible issues I will remove this Fedora image from the chip design and rework the inlay. I don't expect the overall design to change, but obviously the Fedora image will change. Whether it remains a Fedora or perhaps is replaced with something else remains to be seen.

As soon as the modifications are complete I will repost ...

I really apologize for this oversight on my part. I should have done this research BEFORE bringing it to the forum.

For The Record : The spiral ring is a Stock Custom Shape from Photoshop and the Fedora used in the 'faux mold' actually IS an original drawing that I did myself. The background star-burst, while I DID actually draw it, is hardly an original shape. It's so common in design it's kinda like drawing a "original" circle.

My continued apologies ...

EDIT : 2008/06/25

I have established that this would almost certainly represent a pretty straight-forward infringement. I have discovered that Walt Disney Studio's is the current copyright holder for the **** Tracy movie. I am attempting to get in touch with them about using the image.

EDIT : 2008/07/02

I sent Walt Disney an email requesting permission to use the Fedora image. We'll see how long it takes to hear back.

EDIT : 2008/08/06

Heard back from Disney a couple of weeks ago. They NOW want me to submit the request in writing (rather than email). Not sure that it's worth it. As suggested here I will look into alternatives for the Fedora. Maybe new clip art or I have some ideas for maybe drawing something up myself ...

Cool, I like the house mold and the spots best.

Who is making them?

These will be manufactured by ABC Gifts & Awards on their new ceramic blanks.

I want to offer a special thanks to Gene for the assistance and time he has spent with me on this project (and several others!) . THANK YOU!!

Very nice work,

I am deffinately interested in a sample set with spots. Unfortunately, I do not believe that I can budget for much more (spending my allowance on 30c PI buy).

Thank you for making this available.

I definitely like them. Very nice work I love the "spots"; both on the face and the rolling edges. Both the molds look great, not sure which I like better.

I would love a sample set of these, at least. Depending on the price and timing of the buy, a small set is a distinct possibility.

Yeah, it's not much use to about 80% of the people here who don't play stakes as high as 1/2 in our home games.

Sure ...why not! It may throw thing back a bit but unless anyone is in a super hurry it shouldn't be a problem.

As far as pricing goes I am checking on that now and will get back on that as soon as I can . Everyone seems to be soooo busy. Must be poker season.

Not sure how you would feel about pink ... but here's a thought for a 25c chip.
