Gauging interest in new faux clays...

I finally got around to getting a set of the original faux clays. I remember adding 1000 each of the original colors to my shopping cart 2+ years ago and never pulling the trigger. I regret that I didn't buy a bunch back then. They are great for a such a low cost chip.

No one seems to have the old colors in stock. They've been out of stock for a long time now.

I asked a friend of mine in China to look around for the people who made the chips. He found someone who makes these. They look close to the original faux clays. I am not sure what options are for molds. I've asked my friend to contact the factory, send photos of the original faux clays and ask questions.
Some questions I asked:
Are you the original makers of the chips?
Are there any restrictions in selling these chips?
Are there options for the mold used to make the chips?
Can I get samples?
What colors are available?
What kind of quantities would be required?
Cost per chip based on quantity?

So, this question I have for chiptalkers. What other questions should I ask the facotry? And is there interest here?

This is picture that was sent to me.

Re: Gauging interest in new faux clays...

this will be interesting based on the samples. I remember a while back some of us tried to track down the FC mkers to have some made, but couldn't find them and the only answer we could get from trademark is the chips can't be made anymore.

Re: Gauging interest in new faux clays...

Suprisingly I'm not really interested. I rather stick to the real deal.
The only thing that woudl gather my attention were edgespotted chips.

Re: Gauging interest in new faux clays...

Cost, color availability, and feel would be deciding factors for me. I'll definitely keep tabs on this though. Thanks for looking into this!!

Re: Gauging interest in new faux clays...

If they have a recessed center area for a label, I'm all over these.
I'd want samples first, of course.
Without a recessed center, I think everybody is better off just buying original white FCs and dyeing them.

Re: Gauging interest in new faux clays...

If they can be produced with edgespots and a recess for labels but with the same feel than the originals i would be all over those. Provided that the price is near the originals
Uhm can....you deliver them including rivers of chocolate, trees on which beercans grow and readily grilled and marinated pigs

Re: Gauging interest in new faux clays...

I'd be curious to see what the mfg says. Joe at PI went down this road with a couple MFG's in China and the end result was an inferior sample (you could break em with one hand) and costs that were going to be in the $.20-$.25 per chip range. In the end the project fell apart because the MFG's didn't want to do all the R&D/samples to get the mix right because of the low margins

I like the no mold look of them! I am with the others, if there was a recessed area I might pick a few of them up, oh and some additional color choices would be nice as well.

These have got to be the most drab chips I've seen.

Heres the obstacles
1- youre gonna need to have a mold made ( 2800-3500)
2- original matrial is nearly impossible to replicate
3- original manuf is not interested in making these
4- many factories will make a look alike but in pure abs- not the same chip
5- assuming you find a manuf to make something CLOSE if not identical the first question they will ask is: how many hundred thousand of ea chip you want
6- chips are made first by aquiring raw abs/material-- it is bought in bulk so once the factory buys the material- they HAVE to make a ton of chips otherwise the chip cost will be through the roof

Sorry to rain on your parade- but its taken me 7 years to get ONE manufacturer to consider running 10000-20000 of ONE color chip for us

I DO wish you luck- you never know- things in china are off- business is slow and their economy is slowing-- so its POSSIBLE
