Let's do a CT Group Buy with BCC with a Custom Mold

I posted a week or so ago that if BCC would do the T-Mold chips with spots I would do a custom set now - as in right now. So why don't we talk to BCC about a new mold, with a set color and edgespot group buy? We could design a nice, classy mold, do some polls for color and edgespot combos and then have BCC do them at a good price with each person providing their own artwork.

Who's with me? Anyone have a good relationship with BCC? What's the going rate for a mold? What is everyone's price point per chip where they would do this?

Now - who's with me?

C'mon you guys! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Maybe BCC has an old mold they are hiding that we could convince them to revive.....

Re: Let's do a CT Grou Buy with BCC with a Custom Mold

I think a mold is about $4000-$6000.

Just in case this isn't a joke, here's my input. I'd like to see a mold with a recessed center that is smooth so the crosshatching doesn't show through the inlay. The outer rim should have the traditional texture that is lacking on the Proteges. Ask Sn0storm for his "dawn" mold. It is classy and with 12 figures around the edge it is unique. I would buy a set on that mold in a second. I think it would work with any size inlay too.

It would be nice for them to lift the restriction to the usual base colors and inserts. I prefer royal red to blood red, orange to arc yellow, purple to laker purple and dark green to w. day green.

For inserts, quarter pie, 8v, 3U

Could we convince them to cut a round inlay instead of the usual ovals. Oh and can I get mine leaded.

A mold is $7500 you need a minimum of 20k chips for BCC to give you exclusive rights to edgespots (and I'm sure they would limit the number of spots you could get). Plus, who's going to have the rights to the mold? I've spoken with Dave about something similar and this was the response given me.

Re: Let's do a CT Grou Buy with BCC with a Custom Mold

I believe Roland said his mold cost $7500.

Mike (or was it Dave?) had mentioned here a while ago that they were working on a new mold. Maybe you should contact them and see how close that is to completion. Gotta be better than the flame and maybe you can get the first set made with it!

It's either BCC or Paulson for my next set - so I very much like the sound of this. Consider me interested.

What happened to Roland's mold? Did Joe buy it and use it on the PI Clays? I can't remember.

Sure, I could contact them and maybe use the new mold they came up with and maybe be the first. But that wouldn't be as much fun as doing a CT Group Buy - it's what this site was built on.

Wow. I was way off on the mold price. At the bare minimum, that is a .38/chip premium for the mold. 20K could be tough to get to.

Re: Let's do a CT Group Buy with BCC with a Custom Mold

With the right mold, the right colors and edgespots (like the 1/2 pie and 3u), I think 20k would be easy. Heck, get some good designers to help people with their inlays and bingo - we have a 40,000 chip group buy (30 people with a 1,325 chip avg. buy).

Re: Let's do a CT Grou Buy with BCC with a Custom Mold

I know he was trying to sell that mold and had talked to a couple of the retailers about it. Joe did get one for his china clays, but last I knew Roland still had the BCC mold which was nicer than the china clays from what he had said. He may still have it, I haven't heard that anyone bought it.

No offense to Roland, but I bet CT could come up with something even better for a custom chip. I'm just thinking it'd be cheaper if BCC is using their own new mold but I see your point.
