Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

Just cleared the Carbon Poker PSO and got 500 more Desert Sands chips.

I've got:
25 cent 180
$1 180
$5 340
$25 170
$100 100
$500 20
$1000 35

What's the process for a group buy? I don't mind fronting the money for the chips.

I need a 5cent chip

The group buy probably should be:

5 cent chip (pink or light blue)
$5000 chip (orange)

I've got grey 25 cent chips, so I'd prefer not to do $5000 chip in grey.

I would think the pink would work well for the 5 cent chips.

Anybody else interested?

Here are the mock-ups for the chips (see page 4 for available chips)

Re: Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

I'd be interested in following this. Wouldn't need 5c, but would be interested in higher denoms to add to my tourney set.

Re: Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

Send an e-mail to Kim at NJ. I know she is keeping a running count of special NJ Skulls requests and she is going to handle the mini group buy once they hit 500 piece minimum order. Perhaps she can do the same for DS special orders. I remember that the only restriction for different colors or denoms was 100 per color or denom with a total of 500 piece minimum order.

I ran a mini buy for $5000 DS's a While ago here at CT, and we actually split them up. Some people chose orange for their $5000 DS chips and some people chose grey.

EDIT: Link to previous group buy

Re: Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

Hello SunderB !

I am a newbie in the chips poker collectors. I'd buy to whoever has got 1 (one) of desert sands $5000 ceramic chip of grey color (even in the orange color if grey isn't available) as shown in the picture below (I have copied the picture from another post found on the net). I am living in Geneva (Switzerland). Is there someone who can do that ?

I want to buy that it is because i've just bought one new collection case of chips, and there are :

$5000 Nevada Jacks
$5000 Lucky Dragon
$5000 WSOP
$5000 Bellagio 2006
and all $5000 PAULSON chips

And it would be great if I'd had one $5000 Desert Sands...

Also, you said : "I've got grey 25 cent chips, so I'd prefer not to do $5000 chip in grey.". But there are some 50 cent chips in orange too, aren't there ? Anyway, it seems to me that on the picture the grey color tends to be slightly pink (or is it a bad printing of the picture ?). Is'nt it better in grey-pink-like, this not to have the same color for two chips with a very important value difference ?

You can contact me by pm if there is a possibility to make a deal !Thanks in advance !

There really is no cost benefit.

It's more of an availability benefit. NJ will creat a custom chip for you that is not available to the public, but there is a 500 piece minimum. By doing a small group buy, it is easy to meet the minimum, because no one person needs 500 $5000 Desert Sands chips.

Re: Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

Thoughts about colors:

I'm thinking about going with Chocolate (Brown) for the $5,000 chip.
That seems to be the standard for the $5,000 chips (or at least one of the standard colors).

That leaves the 5 cent chip.

I think Orange and Grey are out of the picture (as stated there's an orange 50 cent and the 25 cent is grey)

I've seen on here pink and light blue chips. Since the $1 chip is blue, it seems reasonable to avoid light blue being that they would be in the same game. I wouldn't care if the blue chip was a $1000 chip as they wouldn't be in play in a game where a 5cent chip would be.

I'm thinking pink for the 5 cent chips (I realize that pink often denotes $2.50 or $250, but I don't think many people use those)

Summary:

Chocolate (Brown) $5,000 chip
Pink 5 cent chip

Thoughts...

Re: Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

For the 5K chip I think chocolate is great. Wouldn't have any problems with white or light blue. Don't think there's a white chip in the Desert Sands group.

Re: Group Buy fractional Desert Sands

I was in on the group buy with SunderB (and he was great to work with, BTW) and if I recall, there are some issues with color choices. The new denomination ($5000) cost a little, but other than that we used stock edgespots with stock colors. We went with the orange and grey because they were at the furthest end of the money spectrum from the 25 & 50 cent chips.

I suppose if you follow this logic, you could re-use the yellow color currently used for the DS $1000, since it's unlikely that you'd have .05 & $1000 on the table at the same time.

Larry,

I was never told at the time of our buy that full custom was an option, but I found out later that it is, for an additional artwork fee. They can choose any color they agree on, but check with NJ for art fees before you start quoting prices to the masses.

Here's a pic of some lt blue and pink customs (courtesy of cdmmoose)someone else had done.
