Chips: 204 | | | closed Hi everyone in US ( most of you ...) and in Europe ...
I am new in the " chip world " .... reading all those fantastic " GB " history ....
The only problem when you live in Europe : shipping cost ....
So what about " group buy " dedicated for Europe ? ( as the poker fever is growing .. growing ......)
anyone interest ?
( and sorry for my poor english ) First Edit
From MrChips : I might be able to push down the price to only $0.49 per chip tax free and with free International shipping if we can reach over 52.000 chips. That's for ceramic Sun-Fly chips with non-aligned edges and same front/back design. Second Edit
Nice mock up in this post : http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/523587-post76.html

Chips: 39 | | | Re: Group Buys dedicated to Europe .... To be honest it doesn't really make much difference - all the chips would have to be sent to someone in Europe then sent on to individual group buy participants. To send 500 chips would cost approx £35 ($65ish) from the UK to another EU country. I've never been charged more than that to be delivered from the USA to the UK, providing USPS is the delivery service. UPS just pull numbers out the air.
Import tax/VAT - you pay that on the goods entering the country. UK is 17.5% and then a bit more, Scandinavia much more. Either way, we have to pay it on chips arriving in the EU (as most are from the USA or USA based companies) be it 500 chips or 50,000 chips. So no saving there that I see.
So, sadly, I don't see a solution other than going to vegas on holiday. I'm working on that myself pending someone coming up with a great idea to get great chips... |

I'd be quite interested to see whether anyone might be interested in group buying through mrchip.eu ($0.68/chip, no tax and free shipping to eu countries) so that the 300 chip minimum order quantity could be overcome and people could buy smaller quantities and perhaps build up sets that way - the group buying 100 each at a time etc. Then buying again weeks or months later to build their sets further and therefore spread out the cost. It would only take a minimum of three people hopefully living in the same area/region to make that work. Sun-Fly ceramics only though.

It's impossible to get over the problem that chips are heavy (11.5g baby) and are, as a rule, 3 or 4 thousand miles away.
My solution is to make sure to make the most of any trips that I make to the US. Get involved in the GB's that do exist, and then get them shipped to someone friendly in the U.S. (there are a few, I've discovered)
We could try to get a break on Dal Negro or Modiano cards I guess.....

Chips: 13 | | | Re: Group Buys dedicated to Europe .... Yes, I've already had one offer from someone offering to act as a halfway house delivery point and re-sender via USPS rather than use the unfeasible pricey international UPS. This is great but USPS for 500 10g chips came out at £60+ as well when I used the USPS reckoning form on the web. It always seems cheaper to buy in this country or perhaps from mrchip. Or as you say take a trip and retrieve the chips yourself.
I've not been able to find a mention of any extra costs for uk buyers on the mrchip.eu site though. $0.68 seems a good deal if you are into ceramic replicas and live in the uk.

Martin | if you have an approx quantity in mind let me know- we just signed a deal for international airfreight rates that VERY cheap- we can now offer very inexpensive airfreight shipping worldwide provided the gross weight exceeds 100 kg Our rates are based out of China- specifically guangzhou and Hong Kong which is exactly where we wanted them based from. As we all know- the price of anything is pointless unless the shipping is reasonable- Weve been working on this for 8 months and finally got our rate structures yesterday which will save CT members ALOT of money

Chips: 13 | | | Re: Group Buys dedicated to Europe .... Hi,
Thanks - I would think we may well have a problem drumming up enough business to cover the 100kg minimum, purely through uk buyers though.

Chips: 298 | | | Re: Group Buys dedicated to Europe .... 100kg is only 10,000chips if you assume no weight in the packing (ha ha) and 10g per chip. Probably only about 7000-8000. That only about 10people ordering reasnable size sets so its not unrealistic.
Cheers
