TR King Hot Stamp Kings Crown, NOW CLOSED

Status of this GB: CLOSED!
I will try and keep this original post up to date with the most current info on this GB

12/19/2006: Dies were sent early last week USPS Priority to BCC. They "should" be there by now.

BCC also has the Master list and the artwork for the dies. Any of you guys that are on the list are allowed to contact BCC and have them go to work on some chips for you.

Anyone on the list also has my permission to pay for any new dies that might need to be made. One thing that I want to be clear on this is that any new dies become the property of the entire group. At this point they have all the dies except the $25 which is completely shot. As far as the condition of the rest of them, I will leave that up to the judgement of BCC.

ANYONE NOT CURRENTLY ON THE LIST DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL IN ORDERS TO BCC OR TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS IN ANY WAY!!

9/7/06 Not everyone has their chips just yet, but Dennis at TR King gave up his lease as of 8/31/06 and is no longer in business. As of that date he no longer had any equipment or the ability to manufacture any chips so the last of the chips shipped on or shortly after 8/31/06

I just got my chips this morning and have posted pictures of the final product here:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/321237-post5.html

The only thing that is somewhat up in the air still is the matter of the dies. I think most everyone, if not everyone knows that TR King is no longer in business and that the chips from our GB were the last chips to be made by them. I have the dies that can be seen in the pictures that I linked above. Dennis says the $25 is shot. As can be seen in the pics of my $25 the text is a bit wider than on the other chips. There is a post from JM that Dennis called him and appologized as his $25's were unsatisfactory according to Dennis. I would suggest that no one try to use this one any longer. At this point the other dies are ok, but some might soon find the same fate. Keep this in mind as you think about what should be done with the dies.

6/15/06 This GB is now Closed to any new participants. We are now waiting for our chips.

5/17/06 We are now in the manufacturing que at TR King. The order deadline is set for June 15th. He told me 8-10 weeks from today for delivery to everyone. This puts delivery at somewhere between the middle and the end of July.

5/12/06 We are now taking orders for chips. See below for instructions and details. A ninth die has officially been added now, 10¢

5/11/06 I received all the sample sets yesterday. I got about 1/3 of them back out yesterday and the rest went out today. All sample sets have now been spoken for.

5/3/06
I got an e-mail from Dennis today stating that the samples will ship tomorrow! It should not be long now and we can all start the ordering process. I now have 2 sample sets that are unspoken for.

4/14/06
8 Dies have been ordered. The die order for 25¢, $1, $5, $25, $100, and $500 was placed 3/13/06 and the $1000 and the non denominated one was placed on 4/14/06. The cost for each die is $100. On 3/22/06 Sample Sets were ordered. I did order a few extra Sample Sets so if you didn't get in on the order but still want one, let me know, all the details on the samples are below. I am taking payments of $50 ea from anyone that wants to participate in this GB. This money will go toward purchasing current and additional dies. You will never be required to pay anything more for the use of current or future dies. We will see what the demand is for any additional dies.

Four (4) Steps to ordering:
Step 1: Pay me the die fee. Currently this is $50 (many of you have already completed this step)
Step 2: Decide how many chips you will be ordering, colors and denominations and edge spots or no.
Currently (5/12/06) available denoms: 10¢, 25¢, $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000 and a Non Denominated
Step 3: Confirm with me via pm # of chips that you are ordering. I will confirm back to you that you are on the list and approved to order directly with Dennis at TR King
Step 4: Call in order and pay for chips with Dennis at TR King. (Refer to this as the Kings Crown Hotstamp GB)

If you read this entire original post, you will find the answers to your questions. All the details are here.

What:
Chips will be manufactured by TR King. As many of you Know TR King has a long history of manufacturing chips for real casinos. These will be very nice chips with excellent weight and feel. Jello-Broom has come up with this idea and art. He is relatively new to the forum and thought this idea would be better presented by a regular at ChipTalk, so he and I have joined forces to bring you this one. He will be doing all the artwork and I will be handling the logistics.

Here are some actual chips that he sent as early samples:

Time Frame:
Sample Sets were ordered on 3/22/06. As of 5/11/06 all sample sets have been shipped out from me to you. The GB is now open for orders. Once we hit 2000 chips our order gets in the production que, so the sooner we hit 2000 the sooner the chips get made. This GB will remain open for probably about 3 weeks beyond that point and then be closed. After the initial GB anyone that has paid the die fee is free to order chips and use the dies indefinately, however you will be subject to a new quote (you are on your own).

Security:
These chips will be available only to a select few and security will be excellent. These are not going to be offered through a retailer and you won't see these all over e-bay. It will be almost as if you are getting your own custom set. If you get in on the original order, you will be allowed to order more at a later date, however, I would assume there will be some increase in price for smaller orders down the road. My guess is that the initial order will be in the 5,000-10,000 range. There is no minimum order to make this happen though.

Die Fee

What the $50 Die fee gets you:
1) You will be allowed to participate in the GB for as many chips as you wish.
2) You will be allowed to choose any color/die combo you wish for solid chips.
There are currently (as of 5/11/06) 9 dies that are ready for use. They are 10¢, 25¢, $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000 and a Non Denominated chip.
3) You will be allowed to choose any base/spot color combo. The only restriction is 200 chips/ spotted chip style. (People can team up to get to 200)
5) Exclusive rights and excellent security. Only those that have paid for die fees will be allowed to purchase these chips, except for the sample sets.
6) After the GB is closed you will be allowed to order chips with any of the "Kings Crown" GB dies for an indefinate amount of time. (subject to TR King timing and Pricing)

Once you have paid the Die fee, you will need to pay for chips too:
Everything I am saying below refers to the GB Purchase that will take place after the samples are ordered and everyone gets a chance to see them. Dennis would like us to place one big order, everyone can pay him directly and he will ship directly. After this everyone will have to deal directly with Dennis and will be subject to whatever Dennis says for pricing for your smaller order.

Available Colors:

These are scans from the real chip samples and are very representative of what the chips will look like.

Available Dies:

There are currently 9 dies that are available to use, as of (5/12/06) available denoms: 10¢, 25¢, $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000 and a Non Denominated
Examples of all dies can be seen above except for the 10¢, $1000, and the non denominated dies. I do not have samples of these 3 dies but they ARE AVAILABLE for ordering. Here are some mock ups of these 3:

Pricing:

All plain unspotted chips will be 60¢ ea
For Spotted chips, see below.

Here is what I e-mailed Dennis:

For Reference, ($500 chip below) here is what #4 and #5 are going to look like in real life (the spots that is) Notice that the spots are slightly deeper on the 3 x 2 than they are on the 4 x 1 and 4 x 2. The chip to the left of the $500 is a 4 x 1 and the chip to the right of the $500 is a 4 x 2. It is not all that noticable, but it is a bit deeper.

Maybe he will change his mind, but here is what I understood him to say:
#1 60¢/chip no minimums other than each person would have to order at least 100 chips to get the 60¢/chip price.
#2 Unavailable, He will not fill in spots with the Base color as it will come out funny looking.
#3 $1.00/chip
#4 $1.00/ chip ok, but he says this 3 x 2 is slightly deeper than what is pictured. I then sent him #19 and he says yes, as long as you are ok with it being a bit deeper like it shows in #19
#5 $1.00/ chip ok, but he says this 3 x 2 is slightly deeper than what is pictured. I then sent him #19 and he says yes, as long as you are ok with it being a bit deeper like it shows in #19
#6 $1.00/chip
#7 $1.10/chip
#8, #9 $1.00/chip
#10 $1.10/chip
#11-18 $1.00/chip

I guess I didn't ask him about 4 x 1 with different opposing, but I would count on $1.10/ chip on those too.

Spotted Chip Minimum:
For anyone that is thinking of ordering spotted chips. The only minimum that has been imposed on us is that a minimum of 200 of what ever spot configuration needs to be ordered by the whole group. For example: if one person orders 50 x $500 chip with Lavender base and 5 yellow singles and another person orders 150 $100's with black base and 5 red singles this counts as our 200. For this reason I am pretty sure we will be ok with all the spots so just design and order what you want. If at the end any adjustments need to be made then they will just have to be adjusted accordingly.

Once the GB is Closed: only those who have paid the die fees will be allowed to purchase more chips. There will be no more fees for the use of dies. There will be no minimum order of chips imposed by me from this point on.

If you would like to "Play" with spots and colors Kalimba has added the final version of our Hot Stamp to his Chip Forge tool, so go here: http://www.kalimba.com/chipforge/index.php This should give you a pretty good idea of what your chips could be like. Knock yourself out! A big thanks to Kalimba for this!! Don't forget there is a minimum order of 200 chips per chip style for spotted chips. For this reason, if you want any spotted chips, but don't want at least 200 of any particular style you will have to team up with someone else. Here is a link to a thread where we are all posting what we are wishing for in spotted chips. http://chiptalk.net/forum/group-buy-...t-em-here.html Hopefully this will be helpful in getting everyone what they want.

Just don't get into anything about this group buy!

Re: TR King Hot Stamp Kings Crown with Denominations, Taking payment for Dies

You're right, only the number is centered on the chip (under the crown), and then let me say, the denoms will then look more off center when the number and the monetary symbol are both centered ... PLEASE make a printout of this file I provided and make judgements from that.

http://www.redboxrecords.com/KingsCrown.PDF

BTW, no one's complaining ... it's all input and feedback.

Ok, I have to admit with the smaller ¢ and $ signs as it currently stands, it looks pretty dang sweet the way it is. If the ¢ sign and $ sign were bigger then it would probably look better the other way.....maybe ....I'm not sure now...

Looking at the stock kings crown the font on the $ sign is quite a bit smaller than the actual denom too. Maybe jello had it right to start with.....

Personally, I like the smaller $ and c symbols and think that just centering the denom is fine. The $1 one is really the only one that is questionable as the 1 is so narrow. The others look fine IMHO.

Re: TR King Hot Stamp Kings Crown with Denominations, Taking payment for Dies

Sorry I keep making posts..... I can't stop myself. I am really fired up about this thing.

When I print out the b&W mock up that jello made it printed a little larger than the real chips, maybe an extra 1/8" all the way around. Did that happen for anyone else too? Maybe it is just my printer. I have no idea of how this works or how you would go about making mock ups that would print at real size on everyone's printer, so I am just asking.

Re: TR King Hot Stamp Kings Crown with Denominations, Taking payment for Dies

OK, I can see where there might be some problems with people printing the JPG file out, so here's a more universal method :
http://www.RedBoxRecords.com/KingsCrown.PDF

This file WILL print from Acrobat Reader. Be sure to choose NONE under the "Page Scaling" option when you print it out (so it will print at actual size). This print out is the closest thing to having the actual chips in your hands ... make judgements based from this print.

The 2 pictures you're referring to have the same font for the value. I think the colored image might have a smaller size for the numbers. The "current" version/layout of the chip is the one/s in the PDF file.

I want to add, that the focus on the denomination is the VALUE, that's why I have the number centered, and the monetary sign smaller ... most denominated chips you see will be like this. The focus isn't on the monetary sign, it's on the value, so why bring more attention to the sign than it needs? I'm not saying the monetary signs CAN'T be bigger, but they really shouldn't over power the numbers.

Also, I don't know if you meant you'd like to see a more stylized font for the $Numbers, but the value is the one thing on a chip that SHOULD be easily legible at a glance ... besides, numbers don't generally come too stylized (in a font set).

BTW, I have seen, and did see several chips (on the Golden-State-Treasures site) that have this "complete circle" of text that I mentioned before .. that's the route I went with on my personal chips ... anyday now they'll be at my door.

Shows what I know......

The version in the PDF file (first row) looks really sweet to me. I say its ready to go. That is a bit different than the ones that we have in the mock ups, and better....

Great job jello

These are the current mock ups (same as the PDF file, but these are low resolution images, not suitable for printing). I think either of these are ready to go. The ONLY thing I see that may need fixing is perhaps a small increase in size of the cents sign.

I can't stress enough how much of a difference it makes if you print out the PDF file and see it at actual size in front of you. It helps put everything into perspective ... am I right Nanook?
