The Phoenix from the Flame Thread (NJ Suits GB)

To the rhythmic sounds of MeridianFC beating his head into a wall. It's a got a good beat and you can dance to it!

I think this might be the one. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, like Ali's return to the ring, like...er....the little (chip) engine that could, I am undeterred and am in fact juiced on a new GB possiblity. Once again 5K is the minimum, they will not do any less at all so it's not an option. Once again I'd like some non traditional colors (we can talk though, oh yes we can talk). Once again cash game set is my preference but what the hell we can design some of those high cheques that folks seem to love for their tournaments (oh you crazy kids). Once again my preference is fewer cooks to spoil the broth and to get this thing done. This time I'm upping my personal ante and am looking to get 1.5K-2K chips myself bringing down the number of others needed. Hey if a lot of folks want to jump on board so be it, but I do want to make this one special and unique. No sample sets. Unless you consider 300 chips a sample set. I just got the E-mail back from Jim at NJs. To keep things cheap I can pick up the chips from Baltimore and will deliver to anyone vaguely local (Richmond, Baltimore, Philly, etc).

Who: Me and 5 or so conspirators (could be a bit more if folks only want slightly smaller size sets)
What: Nevada Jacks (Blue Chip) clay casino chips done on the Suits mold. Classic, hell yeah. If you've handled it you know it rocks. The only Blue Chip that does IMHO.
Cost = $1/chip + $250 set up fee. This is based on a set of 5 unique chips. (.25-$100). Per Jim this is the approximate cost.
Why: Because chipaholism can not be cured. Stylish unique cheques are what separate the men from the boys. Spendthrift ain't just a word.
Where: Right here
When: Sooner rather than later. Let's get this cookin' by January.
How: TBA. I think we can probably arrange for NJ to handle all the cash which would probably make everyone more comfortable. In a worse case scenario I can front all the cash and be paid back.

Using the good work done by 7cardStud (for edge spot patterns only, colors will be very different):

.25 = #1 in the above (reading left to right, top to bottom)
$1 = #8 in the above
$5 = #6 in the above (this is the only one I will really fight for, it's one of my favorite spot patterns ever).
$25 = #11 in the above
$100 = #7 in the above

(these are the patterns I asked NJ about)

I've a color scheme in mind, most of you can probably already guess. But we can talk, oh yes we can talk.

If you're not interested in custom there is a sell for those type of chips on eBay see this discussion:

http://chiptalk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12815

Seems like a really good deal just not to my taste (never liked the coast to coast sized inlay).

If we keep this to a few enough folks I'd again like to suggest that each chip reflect something about each member of the buy. Just an idea like. Refer to the now dead TRKing buy below for some of my insert ideas. I do have access to a hot **** graphic artists (who is rapidly getting pissed off at the number of these things I've tried to get started).

Re: The Phoenix Thread (NJ Suits GB)

You have my attention!!

Have you thought about "California Colors" (blue, yellow, etc.) otherwise I would kind to like to see some different colors. Maybe a black $20 or Purple $25. I am really not crazy about #11 but #10.

Oh man, just when I thought I would never buy another set....

Re: The Phoenix from the Flame Thread (NJ Suits GB)

The above is for edge spot pattern reference only, not colors.

The above is what I believe to be BC's color chart. I don't know if it's expanded since the thread it was discussed.

My idea scheme is very 60s-70s (golden age of gamblin' in my book). It's sort of "color shifted" where the normal colors get moved over to shades or hues. I'd prefer to either use the normal color scheme (blue(white)/red/green/black) or not use it at all as it gets confusing otherwise even if the chips are denominated (and they will be btw; $ on each check a must). If you have a black and purple chip and it's not $100 and $500 some folks are going to get confused no matter how big the text is.

I'd thought:

.25 = 2X1 chocolate w/ red spots
$1 = 4X1 Sherbet green w/ dark blue & dark green alternating
$5 = 8Xwedges Orange w/ black & white alternating
$25 = 4X2 gray w/ adobe & sky blue double spots
$100 = 6X1 coral w/ almond & black
Anything above these amounts I don't care

Just some ideas.

If you haven't handled the Suits mold you really should. The grain is a bit coarser than the Nevada mold, but all around I like it much better. As I stated yonks ago, it's my actual favorite available mold still in production.

Re: The Phoenix from the Flame Thread (NJ Suits GB)

there are a lot of colors to look at. If you want to stay away from "traditional" colors then I would have a tough time with sherbert green. Anyway the best colors I think are almond, gold, peach, orange, coral, adobe, chocolate, lavender and showboat grey. Don't know which are my favorite chocolate is a definate with lavender and gold very close.

Figuring that I would only be in for 500 or 10% of the GB I figure your 30% to 40% interest is more important so I would yeild if need be. But the inlay will have to be cool. I like your 60s and 70s train of thought...This could be really good.

Re: The Phoenix from the Flame Thread (NJ Suits GB)

As far as base colors I'd agree with you on the chocolate, adobe, orange, showboat gray, coral. Cholcolate and Gold are two of my faves also though I really do like the sherbet green (which appears to me to be the same as seafoam green). I've always wanted a chip with Orange and black too as it seems very striking.

Let's see who else has ideas. I've pm'd another person who is looking to do a big chip buy.

Nope, Nevada Jacks. They let him use it for his clays (I'm sure there was some fee involved).

How many do you have to order for NJ to let you use their mold? Or do you just pay a rights fee?

Re: The Phoenix from the Flame Thread (NJ Suits GB)

I don't know how MSpatton structured his deal so I can't comment on that. I spoke (well E-mailed) with Jim E. from NJ's directly (I've also spoken with Kim in the recent past) and they won't do less thank 5,000 on either of their clay molds. The proposal I submitted was for 5,000-6,000, on the Suits mold, five unique chips (as described above), with custom insert (I'd provide camera ready art). Jim said approximately $1/chip + $250 set up fee.

Whilst TRKings have the weight and feel, and ASM have the ability to do low quantity with custom insert (and they're both wonderful chips) with these new patterns available and a classic mold I personally love, I think this is the one. Sure they're not Paulson but it's about as close as us mortals are going to get.

Re: The Phoenix from the Flame Thread (NJ Suits GB)

I would never ever pay $1/chip for BCs. That's just me though.
I'm not even sure I want to pay $1/chip for TR Kings at this point.
I love BCs for their looks and all the different patterns and colors you can use, but the chips just aren't worth that kind of money.
