Anyone know what the various symbols on the Pharoh NCV chips mean?
Particularly the little red icon/figures on the lower water-mark images.
Any names/meanings to the larger, multi-color main images would be nice as well.
Ten, care to give a brief lesson on the pertinent Egyptology?
Or, perhaps, at least point me to a good book about it?
Thanks,
doc
There's something floating around in the forums that talks about this, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Ten may be able to direct you to the post, I think it was from him.
I was actually asking him about this in the pharaohs gb thread, but it was the main symbols, not the watermarks. I can tell you what they are, but I think you were more interested in the watermark symbols (glyphs?).
Not sure of the meanings, and not entirely sure of all of the glyphs, but I'll share what I think.
Black chip = Horus, in falcon form. God of the sun/sky/victory/etc.
Blue chip = Ankh. Symbol of life.
Green chip = Unsure.
Orange chip = Unsure.
Purple chip = Scarab (beetle).
Red chip = Unsure.
White chip = A cartouche. Unsure of enscription.
The color images on the denom. set are:
Blue $0.25 chip = Scarab (beetle).
White $1 chips = Unsure. (Bust of Ramses from Abu Simbel?)
Red $5 chip = Great pyramids at Giza.
Green $25 chip = Unsure (Isis?)
Black $100 chip = Anubis, God of the afterlife, in jackal form.
Purple $500 chip = Eye of Horus.
Orange $1000 chip = Profile of Queen Nefertiti.
The watermark on all of the chips appears to be Horus in falcon form, as typically found in pendants/pectorals.
I believe the white chip cartouche is heiroglyph for either one or $1. The one on the red chip seems to be the sphynx.
I believe the white chip icon is tut's burial mask. I think you're right on the green chip (the goddess Isis). The purple chip is also known as the Eye of Ra.
