Well I'm rooting for a good outcome and peace here. It takes a lot to step up and be responsible and even more to forgive.

Re: beware
I had someone call me a Nazi in high school once. After I grabbed him by the throat and threw him up against the chalkboard in the middle of my algebra class, everyone got the idea that I didn't appreciate being called a Nazi and I never had that problem again. I'm glad this worked itself out as well.

Re: beware
Wow. I'm happy to see one of these threads actually go in a good direction for a change. It takes a big person to step up and admit they not only said something way out of line, but follow up with an apology not to just the person but essentially to everyone. Well done.

All snarky and flat out offensive comments aside, the initial issue is a result of the differences between German and American culture. Being that I currently live in Germany, I experience it first-hand.
In Germany, verbal commitments carry a lot more weight than they do in the U.S. In Germany, you do not commit to anything unless you intend to follow through. In fact, you can be taken to court over a verbal agreement and easily lose. Germans do not commit to things lightly and follow-through on what they say they will do and so culturally, Meatboy expects that when someone says they are going to buy something, it is a done deal.
Americans feel a transaction is not "solid" until money or services are exchanged. It's embedded in our capitalist natures. As the buyer, I hold the power of the money and I can walk at any time if I am not satisfied up until the point that I hand it over. As the seller, you have to continue to demonstrate good faith and meet me on my terms until I am ready to transact.

This is a VERY good point. When I was younger I considered someone's word binding, but over the years of having dishonerable people essentially back out of handshakes and verbal agreements you get used to not trusting what someone says and instead trust the money - it's the "money talks" way of doing things and it seems to be the only other universal truth besides death and taxes. I didn't realize I had fallen into that until this thread really. Well said.

Re: beware
OK, on to the next topic. Which is better: German Bratwurst or Sheyboygan, Wisconsin Brathwurst? I've had both in their original homeland....

Re: beware
I love brats. We have them every Thursday nite at my home game. Load 'em with horseradish mustard, relish, sharp cheddar.
Johnsonville. Are they the Bud Lite of brats?

LOL, but with all due respect, I think not. I'm from Wisconsin, and this is the type of brat that I grew up with, not those pasty-looking grey-white things that some people actually eat.
