Chips: 2,938 | | | Ringtones - Verizon - ENV2 OK, so I've been with Verizon since before they were AirTouch. (Anyone else remember Pac Tel Cellular?)
Since the advent of the "personal ringtone" I've always been able to purchase a dozen or so for about a buck each in a package, and use them at my discretion until I upgrade my phone, and then only have to purchase more to use on the new phone.
I've been using strictly Motorola products since my first pager in 1992.
However, I recently acquired an LG ENV2 (friend had one, lost it, insurance replaced it, and then he found his old phone, he sold me the new one for $50) to fill the gap before I get a 3G iPhone when my contract is up in October.
I went to buy my usual "pack of ringtones" from Verizon's "Get it Now" system, only to find out that:
A: Each ringtone is now like $3
and
B: Even after you pay the $3, they charge you 99¢ per month to use it.
and
C: they "expire" after 12 months forcing you to purchase it again.
What kind of hokey crud is that? iTunes gives you a FULL high-quality version of a song for only 99¢, and Verizon wants $15 (actually $30 if you use it for a full 2 year contract) for a 20 something second digitized clip?
So yesterday, I started my 'net searching for a way to convert a sound (MP3, WAV, etc.) file into a ringtone, and either send/transfer/save it to my phone, or whatever.
I might have a case of the dumbs today, but all of the tools and websites I've tried have not worked for me yet. I've tried ventones.com, and a few others. Most of the time, the problem is that when they suggest that you create the ringtone, and save it to your PC, to then use the VZW webpage to send it to yourself. So far I've tried MP3, AVI, MIDI and each time it says, "File Format Unrecognized" or similar and won't let me upload it to my files area.
I have a 4GB Micro SD card with an adapter arriving tomorrow, which should make things a little easier.
Has anyone here successfully turned an MP3/WAV/MIDI (et al) clip into a ringtone on their Verizon or LG phone? What format actually works?
Any advice, links or suggestions appreciated. |

I had a Moto KRZR with a 2gb card. I put about 15 test songs (all same format etc) and only a few showed up. Went to verizon store n tech support had no idea why it was happening.
Now i have the Moto Q. Its operating off of Windows mobile so transferring files and syncing songs, movies and pics is a lot easier.
still trying to figure out the ringtones though |

I guess I'll play a bit tomorrow when it arrives, and I'm not limited to the "Send to Phone" option from most of these ringtone conversion sites.
Has anyone here ever done what I am speaking of and actually been successful? |

Great website Chuck, I just put 2LiveCrew's "Me So Horny" on my phone. Too bad they don't have "Put her in the buck!" |

Chips: 73 | | | Re: Ringtones - Verizon - ENV2 Motorola has some software that you can use with most phones. You can purchase it on their website. It allows you to take any mp3 and edit it and make a ringtone. It also has tools to back up address books, transfer pics, etc. You can use bluetooth or buy a cable at the radio shack. I'ts been a while since I paid for a ring tone, but I do pay for answer tones that the caller hears when they call me and they expire after 1 yr and you pay upfront and then .99 a mth for the service. |

It took 10 seconds. I also go the USC Fight song. Very nice! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
