Sheesh, I thought I'd get the +1.... wasn't Rizzo (the Muppet) the original collector of spores mold and fungi lo those many years ago....? [EDIT - Sorry, I just looked it up to see if my mind was playing tricks on me and I was wrong, it was Gonzo who originally had the spores, mold and fungi collection, not Rizzo, so please excuse my misidentification (but I still think it has to be the earliest pop-culture reference to such a collection - maybe somebody was borrowing or paying homage....) I'm sorry for my Muppet misidentification!] Neil

I just remembered the Muppets talking about it and telling my kids it was a funny line - I guess I'm a bit too old to have tuned in to the reference you were making.
Great thread, by the way (see, I am an old fogey, I didn't use "BTW" )
Best regards,

I'm terrible (and that's putting it nicely) at chess, but I think they look neat. I should snap a few pics one of these days....

I suck at chess (well, I'm definitely not "good" anyway), but I have this thing for sets. I only have 7 or 8, none particularly expensive (although I recently inherited a pewter Franklin Mint "Battle of Waterloo" set that's pretty sweet), but I have them scattered around my apartment and get made fun of by my wife. I have a (cheap) resin LOTR, and a reasonably nice South African stone set. I rarely play with them, though. A $30 glass set you could pick up at any mall gets the most use.
I also have a lot of board games from the '60s-80's. Poker chips (specifically high-end playable sets) are really just an extension of my "game" collection, I guess. I used to have an awful lot of playing cards, too... not really from collecting per se, but I'd buy a deck, wear it out, buy another deck, etc., and never throw any out (until about 8 years ago). |

I love the microbrews and hometown breweries. I actually just got back from vistiing the Ommegang and Cooperstown breweries in Cooperstown, NY today. I'm gonna guess I have over 200 different bottles that I've collected over the last 5 or so years. My pint glass collection isn't nearly as big, but is steadily growing.. (added 2 today!). Sorry that I dont have any pictures. Most of them are packed away. |

Maurice is amazing. There will be times I see his name in the credits and think "whoa!!! He did that!" H may not be a Mel Blanc, but he's darn close!!
I like where this thread is going. Just what I hoped. Keep 'em coming! |
Thank you... Thank you... Hopefully you can get in touch with Maurice. If not, you'll probably have to go to a Comic-Con to meet up with him.
Indeed. Mel Blanc is the stuff of legend, but I would have to say that the all-time voice artist king is definitely Frank Welker. The volume of work he has done in his career is absolutely incredible. Take a look at Welker at iMDb and be astounded. |

I have pretty much stopped because I have as many as any one person needs (around 20) and I used to get 1 for christmas when I was a kid. I put them away with the Christmas stuff every year and haven't actually gotten them out for about 5 years because I just have been lazy. I don't really even remember which I have, except for my favorites. But each time I break them out it is like Christmas all over again. It is a great feeling unpacking them and all these memories come back. Only one thing though and I let my parents know right from the start they have to be Steinbach (they are the Endy's of Nutcrackers). I am such a Chip and Nutcracker snob.

Just so long as you don't put your chips in the nutcracker. That would be bad (probably for both). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
