Can anybody tell me what the compass on the roulette table is for? It's close to the dealer on his right, usually at the edge of the table by the chips. What the heck does a roulette table need a compass for?

Totally a guess, but aren't the little round balls magnetic? Couldn't a
large magnet be used to 'steer' them in some fashion? A compass
would be pretty useful in detecting a magnetic field.

The magnetism theory might be it.....sounds like the most probable.
