Fund Raiser Tournament Year 3

Here's the story:

A buddy lost his young son to cancer a couple years ago. They started a foundation (see it HERE) to benefit a variety of things. Someone had the idea to do a Texas Hold'em Tournament so you know who they called (I'm the only really crazy chip guy of all my friends).

I got in touch with Card Player magazine, they checked out my story, the website etc. and are now sending me 100 copies of the issue closest to our tournament date, hats, tee-shirts and bunches of other stuff. I cannot thank them enough and just wanted to put it out there for other ChipTalk.net'ers to know how gracious they were. Also, Michael at Holdempokerchips.com donated a WHOLE bunch of stuff last year and if he can, maybe a few things this year (I haven't emailed Michael yet). Either way, HPC went way out their way as well.

These donated items were used as prizes. Each player (expecting 120+ ) will get one bounty chip. If you take a player out, you get his/her bounty chip. If later you get taken out by another you can redeem the bounty(s) for prizes. It's a great way for people to get a little something back.

Here is where you can help:

If you do have an item, anything poker related, gift cards (don't have to be poker related), or whatever and would consider donating it to the cause, it would really be appreciated. Just send me a PM or email and we'll work it out. Thank you advance for any help.

Davis Carlson Memorial Foundation 3rd Annual Texas Hold'em Tournament

Saturday, April 19th -- Stanwood, WA

4pm great dinner comes w/buy-in
5pm start time
11-ish finish

$100 buy-in, $50 towards foundation, $50 prize-pool

**If by some wild chance you live close enough to join us and can deal (don't have to play) we really need dealers that "have a clue how the game goes" due to the number of newer players that we see. Hey, you get a great meal out of it if nothing else!

Re: That time of year -- Can you help?

I wanted to say thanks to the following Chiptalkers who have offered up a donation! The more prizes we have to offer, the more "happy" players go home and then play next year. We've grown from 70 to over 125 in 3 yrs! I've got to order more chips now! Darn.

Nana -- if your idea works out, WOW!

PAZ914 -- 2 sample sets of TR King Teddy KGB replicas complete with airtites! Sweet!

littlebu -- bounty chips will work great!

Re: That time of year -- Can you help?

I also wanted to thank Card Player Magazine for again being beyond generous and donating some great things for our fund raiser. Here is a quote from the rep I heard back from:

We will be more than happy to help you guys this year as well. We can donate some shirts, poker books by Barry Shulman, Card Player deck of cards, mouse pads and magazines.

Funny, I meant to subscribe last year after getting my free issue at the tournament and all they did but for whatever reason didn't. I did finally subscribe today! It's so cool to see a big company like this treat "little people" like us so well. Anyway, just wanted to publicly thank Card Player!

If anyone else out there has something they'd like to toss in, that would rock. There is still time to get it to me!

PS -- I'll post some picks up like I did last year, after all the goodies come.

PSS -- I did receive the bounty chips & TR Kings from littleblu & PAZ914 -- picks to come as well. Thanks

Re: That time of year -- Can you help?

I wanted to thanks all those above that contributed to the prizes to give away for this tournament. Truly I'm amazed at the generosity of people. And in true Nanabanana fashion (above and beyond) check out what she painted!

In our initial chat, I thought we'd give away Nana's special painting as a top prize, but it's WAAAYYY tooo sentimental and good for that -- it's going to the parents that lost their child. If you check out the website (listed above) you'll see how beautifully Nana incorporated the Logo that some local students created for the foundation into her original painting. Sounds corny I know, but it brought a tear to my eye. You da bomb Nana!

"The Pile is growing for Saturday..."

Again thanks to those I've mentioned already along with Wolfpack's most recent donation of playing cards & chips. CardPlayer magazine sent me a bunch of Tee-shirts, Mouse Pads (with odds), Poker Books, Playing cards and the 3 cardboard boxes in the pic above are 100+ current issues to give away!

Re: That time of year -- Can you help?

Can a Mod change the title of this thread? I've tried but can't... I wish it read "Fund Raiser Tournament Year 3" or something.

Anyway HERE is a link to the pics some very nice young ladies took for me throughout the night (I was a bit busy running the 72 person show). Unfortunately there are some key shots missing (like the final heads up match & winner -- those are on another camera).

A couple quick thanks -- first to jojo who has helped me understand blind progression and with his help we had the best run tournament EVER. That not being enough Matt also drove over an hour and a half, dealt the entire night, including the final table, which allowed me to clean up and get out of Dodge a bit early. Oh, the Chiptalk toppers worked great as did Michaels Hot Stamped T-molds -- nothing like big stacks of "sweet tarts".

There were many others as noted in early posts that contributed donations for prizes which made it it so great for those folks that went out early to take home a little something. The TRK Rounders chips were a big hit and Nana your painted brought the mom to tears.

Can't wait until next year.
