I've played golf my whole life and never heard of this...Taken from Patrik Antonius' blog: Patrik Antonius "One thing that I cannot believe after watching the ESPN high stakes
golf is how all of the poker players bend the rules when they golf.
They use Vaseline on their clubs to keep the ball straight and other
tricks that are not legal. I want to learn real golf and will not bet
with those kinds of crazy tricks."
Vaseline on golf clubs?...this really work as I dont understand how it would?...I am assuming they grease up the shaft?
This sounds like a real cheesy thing to do, specially while betting on a game- |

I have heard this, but was probably more effective years ago when drivers had more grooves on the face. Grease takes spin off the ball, much like hitting out of moist grass (knuckle ball flight)

yeah, it used to be pretty common. vaseline takes off the spin of the ball and add a tiny bit of a sling shot effect. It's highly forbidden in professional golf.

Wow, I just figured out how to cure my slice....I'll just add a little vaseline to my bag and call it my lip moisturizer if anyone asks.

if you suck at golf , vasoline isn't gonna help. Practice and lessons is the only way to go.

There must be some really good money out there in the golf hustling world.
Im sure some of them are pretty good (dewey Tomko for ex.) and the ones who are bad are constantly improving, but did you see clips of Negraneu's swing, or even Ivey a few years back in the wsop footage?....$5k a hole and the guy literally couldnt even hit the ball....Im sure his game has come along way though.

I'd take on Negreanu for $10k a hole. And I'd only take 3 $20s with me....for the beer cart. For some reason I think I could beat him right-handed (I'm a lefty...).

Good golfers rely on the spin to get the ball higher in flight and to check-up when they hit the green.

Not with a driver. Never seen anyone grease up an iron.
I've never used the stuff but I have a friend of mine who not the greatest golfer but hits the ball a mile. He keeps some "slick stick" in his bag primarily for scrambles.
