Anyone dealt with a UPS insurance claim before?

I haven't been contacted by UPS yet, but the tracking info shows that my package was damaged and not delivered. The package had a declared value over $3000. I hope this goes smoothly......

If you've been through an insurance scenario with UPS I'd love to know how it went.

This custom ChipTalk link is built to show you only the real deal: Casino quality poker chips; Not the plastic chips that some sellers call "clay."

i AM DEALING WITH ONE RIGHT NOW, RE: A BOX OF 2500 PHAROAH'S busted open in one of their reading machines. They sent back 1200 of them and they appear to have taken quite a tumbling.

It;s taking a long time on the claim, and I am worried they are not going to pay the full amount. for one thing, the box was labeled 60 pounds, and the insruance claim says "12 pounds of 60 missing" when they actually sent back less than half the chips. It should have said "30 pounds of 60" missing.

keep me posted on how your claim goes.

Ten, I hope your claim gets covered completely. I'll update this thread when UPS contacts me (hopefully soon, the buyer is pretty upset right now).

I have dealt with UPS twice for breakage during shipping. Eventually, I was able to get everything I was due.

Re: Anyone dealt with a UPS insurance claim before?

Hey Folks,

I'm a Corporate Rep for FedEx. FedEx and UPS have almost identical policies and procedures when it comes to claims resolution.

I know the inner workings of both companies inside and out. I've been doing this for a few years. If you run across a snag and would like some help and/or guidance, just PM me and i'll be more than happy to help.

As long as the damage is verified, the value was declared, the original packaging has not been disposed of before inspection AND they determine that it was properly packaged... you will get paid.

Just keep in mind.. all of these things count. Technically you didn't pay insurance... You paid for "Declared Value". This means they can refuse to pay if you didn't package it correctly or abide by their terms and conditions.

Like I said, I'll be glad to help if you need a hand

Re: Anyone dealt with a UPS insurance claim before?

Just an update:

UPS said they wouldn't cover the damage siting "insufficient packing"

I told them it was packed professionally and they responded with "Oh, you're disputing this. OK, we'll have someone call you."

I got the call this morning. The representative (of a company that handles claims for UPS) said that she knew no details of the damage and I would have to photograph the box and the damage and email it to her. I did get a claim number, so thats good.

I got charged $40 for return shipping, citing "recipient cancelled order" I talked to the recipient and she didn't talk to UPS or inspect/reject the package in person (at 9:00PM according to the tracking info)

So the package is on its way back to me, and I have my camera ready. I'll be talking to the manager of the store where I had it packed, as well.

Its not going as smoothly as I had hoped, but I'm not throwing in the towel yet.

Don't give up...

Dispute, dispute, dispute...

And dispute the charges on the return transportation too. If the driver didn't deliver it citing "visible damage" you should not have to pay the outbound OR the return transportation charges. A calm conversation with someone at UPS revenue services (billing department) should have that part taken care of rather quickly. It's a rather common mistake.

One of the companies I work with, ships with UPS or used to I think they switched to FedEx now. But I had them ship a package for me because it was Hazardous Materials and they can do that and we can't. So it gets damaged, great. They also got the same response you did, it wasn't packaged properly. After I talked with the guy that shipped it for me he said, that was the response for every claim they have ever filed. It seems that comes first no matter what, and if even 10% of people drop the claim there, then they are better off because they won with a standard form letter responce. So do as King of the Farm said and dispute everyting that isn't right.
