Hi Folks,
Going to make a quick stop next Saturday in AC before a conference in NYC the following week. Me and a buddy are staying at Caesers, which I think has a decent poker room. Looking to play some No-Limit ring games and tourneys.
Any poker room recommendations?
Also has anyone taken the bus from NYC to AC? Do I need to make reservations?
Thanks,
Gmunny

You could take Greyhound round-trip from NYC to AC for $31 a person. Greyhound.com has it listed as 2:25 to 2:45 one way in travel time. You could purchase a ticket at the terminal a couple hours before you leave.

It's been a long while since I did that trip but if I recall correctly no reservations on the bus required unless they're REALLY full which is not normally the case.
Sorry don't have much input on the poker rooms.

Having never played in a real casino...take this with a grain of salt.
My father in law plays about once a month in AC. I seem to recall him mentioning the Taj and Showboat...specifically that the games in the Taj were much tougher, meaning that the quality of players seemed higher than at the Showboat. Keep in mind he is only playing 2-4 limit.

I was in AC a couple of weeks ago (we made an overnight stop there before Preakness).
I believe the Taj has the biggest poker room there with over 100 tables. I played 1-2 NL and did pretty well. Won over $100 on my second hand with two pair (Aces & Jacks). Ended up $50 after about 6 hours of play. I'm surprised and happy to say the table I was at was very tight...there weren't a bunch of morons chasing every straight/flush draw.
After a brief rest me and a buddy of mine hit Tropicana. There is an awesome vodka room there thats a little pricey but worth a visit. The top of the bar is a huge block of ice to keep your drink chilly. There is also a Palm restaurant and an Irish pub. The poker room there is smaller and the play alot looser due to a younger crowd ( a guy with pocket 5's kept calling to the river despite 3 face cards on the board). I managed to win $150 there playing 1-2NL after another 6 hours of play.
Unfortunately, I never took the bus there so I can't help you there. Hope this helps and good luck! Watch out, a friend of mine who's pretty good lost $800 at the 1-2 NL tables at the Taj.

The Taj is nice, but hard to find a table at the lower limits without a bunch of donkeys.
The new room at Showboat is real nice. Upstairs away from the casino noise. Smoke free, and they have reasonably priced tourney's twice a day ($40+10 80-100 players).
The Trop has a nice smoke free room also. Can be another donkey haven at low levels.
Borgatta has a pretty room. Have not played there yet so don't know how the action is.
Good luck

I played at the Borgata a few weeks ago. It had single table S&G's either %60+10 or $120+20 Thsy paid $500 / $100 and $1000 / $200. Third place was the bubble (guess where I went out)
There were big waits, the tables were full and I was there Monday through Wednesday nights.
Played some 2/4 limit - only thing that came avaialble for me - the game constantly had 3-4 in a show down - premium hands only.
No experience with the other rooms in AC - but the Borgata was busy.
They use BJ chips - same as the table games in the cash games - which kinda suck for shuffling at the table. tournament chips were solid stamped H&C Paulsons.
Have fun - Matthew

I did the NYC bus trip to AC a few weeks ago. Academy bus leaves every hour or so during the day, you can buy your ticket just before you get on the bus. Otherwise Greyhound has frequent service as well. Both have casino bonues upon arrival. The particular bus I was on stopped at Tropicana where the bonus was $20 cash and I continued on to Ballys where the bonus was $17 cash.
I stayed at Bally's as it was the cheapest room I could get. Their poker room is the only one (or at least one of the only ones) where you can still smoke. I don't smoke though so I didnt' stick around long.
I spent most of my time at Tropicana. They spread a number of games in a nice poker room. Many more games than I saw spread at Caesars or Ballys. Most of the people I spoke with said that the Borgata was nice, but often has incredibly long waits that they said was not worth it.
