| Re: Dropping Hamiltons like Arron Burr is so old school... That is a great segment. The way John Stewart and the Daily Show group can get such funny stuff together in such a timely manner is remarkable. While I think that all the joking on Cheney from the late-night comedians is fair game, it is getting annoying hearing all the folks and certain media outlets complaining how this was news that Cheney should have told everyone, including the president, earlier. I hear all these radio call-in shows where folks are blaming him for not being forthcoming and how this epitomizes the arrogance and secrecy of the administration. While I agree they are hardly forthcoming with the press or public, that is stretching it a bit too far. If this had been a political issue, or one concerning the public at large, I would wholehartedly agree. It's true that our elected officials are always in the public eye, but this was a private event while the vice-president was not doing official business. He does not need to pick up the phone and call the press to tell them what happened. He DOES need to immediately sit down with local authorities and give a full description of the event (which I think he waited at least 24 hours to do.)
Now that this issue has blown up so big, he would be smart to at least make a public statement, because silence at THIS point only makes the issue worse. But this administration has never been a very open one...
The interesting thing that I see is that this is also a gun issue. Had Cheney been driving a car and caused an accident in which someone was injured, I do not think the story would have taken the path that it has. |
