I have been asked to coordinate a beer tasting for the benefit of the local Catholic elementary school (I love this). The basic idea is to have about six beers for 30-35 people to try. The presumption is that the people will like beer in general but not necessarily be major craft beer drinkers (i.e. beer snobs, like my wife calls me). There will be no Bud/Miller/Coors etc but should be at least a few beers that the average Miller Lite drinker might like.

Here is my shopping list for the buyer:

1. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

2. An American Wheat Beer - Harpoon UFO, Anchor Summer beer, Sierra Nevada Unfiltered Wheat, Widmer Hefeweizen or Pyriamid Hefeweizen

3. An IPA - Dogfish Head 60 min IPA, Stone IPA, Harpoon IPA

4. A Porter - Deschuttes Black Butte Porter, Sierra Nevada Porter, Redhook Porter, Anchor Porter

5. A Belgian White- Hoegaarden Wit, Celis White, Blue Moon Belgian White

6. An Oktoberfest - Paulaner Oktoberfest or any decent brand of Oktoberfest.

Maybe 1-2 bottles each of the large size (about 0.75 liter or the size of a bottle of wine) of Chimay (either Red or Blue) and Arrogant Bastard (regular or oaked).
Also, if you can't find anything in one of the six categories above, I would substitute New Belgium Fat Tire or Anchor Steam.

Not comprehensive for sure. Could use a stout or bitter or any of several German beers, but what have I left out? And what do I get rid of to keep the main list at six beers?

L

Girl baseball player, 15, cited for opponent's forfeit in Phoenix - ESPNHS

Well normally I'd have 2+2 for this, but I'd like to have a reasonable debate. Basic story is that an all-boys school (religious background) forfeited the finals for a state charter school championship in Arizona due to a girl being on the other team.

This has gone national I assume thanks to ESPN and others reporting about it. While I don't agree with the beliefs of this group (basically seems to want to keep men and women separate) and not allow co-ed sport competition, it's their right. At the beginning of the season, they reportedly contacted other teams inquiring whether there were girls on those teams. None had any at the time. Then Mesa added a girl to their roster. While sitting during the regular season, it was not an option that the team was willing to take for the girl in the finals. As a result, the other team opted to forfeit the championship.

I don't see any particular wrong doing here. The school didn't try and get her banned. They just said thanks but no thanks. If she would have been on the roster at the start, I'm thinking they would have just said, sorry boys - no baseball this year. It is something to their own disadvantage, but it's their choice.

Outraged at eBay! - Class Action Lawsuit Anyone?

Ok, time to rant.. I have taken eBay's crap for a while now and this is the final straw... I have been an eBay user from the beginning before they acquired Paypal and became the ultra-greedy, hostile-to-their-seller Megacompany that they are today...

I've given them thousands of dollars through auctions, both bought and sold.

I have 1254 feedback with 100% positive feedback in the last 12 months.. I have 5 stars in 4 of the 5 categories with the only imperfect score being 4.5 stars in "Shipping Time" and because of this, eBay has now categorized me as "below seller standards" and is limiting the number of for sale auctions I can have on a monthly basis to 20 auctions. But this is not the worst of it.. eBay has also imposed on me through Paypal a hold on all my funds from sale transactions where they "hold" the money and do not let me have it for 2 weeks after the auction has ended. They are KEEPING my money from me.. And of course earning interest on it...

The reason I have a 4.5 rating in "Shipping Time" is because I am stationed at a military base overseas. So when I sell an item, it takes an extra week to reach the U.S. through the military postal system. I tell people this in my auctions but I still get buyers who contact me 2 days after the auction ends asking where their item is. Then, when it arrives a week and a half later, they give me less than 5 stars on shipping speed. This hasn't even been very many people who have done this but apparently it is enough for eBay to categorize me as "below standards".

For some reason, out of 1254 feedback and 100% of it being positive in the last 12 months, I am "below standards"? What is your standard, eBay? Your standard must be "perfection" because I think I am pretty close. I can only assume eBay has now set up this difficult to maintain "standard" because it benefits them in some way, and not their customers, as they are known for doing. Holding onto our money and keeping the interest for several weeks surely benefits them. And there must now be a LOT of sellers "below standards" that they are doing this to. eBay is again fleecing us sellers for millions of dollars..

Just for clarification, eBay's "performance standard" is that now you are only allowed to have 3 ratings below 5 in a 4 month period before they drop you to "below standards" and impose these penalties on you that earn them extra money.. 4 months and only 4 people have to not rate you perfect??? That's only 1 non-perfect rating a month! How many millions of sellers does eBay have and out of these, I am sure that a lot of them are now "below standards" with criteria this high.. And eBay gets to make more money from them now.

Ok, eBay.. You charge me to list the auction... You charge me to sell my item.. You charge me a fee to accept Paypal... That's 3 charges to sell a single item.. Even though I think all these charges are excessive, I agree to them when I sell with you.. But I did NOT agree to you holding my money and earning interest from my sales.. And I certainly am not paying you this much money for a service you are now imposing selling limitation on. I am not a problem seller and I am making you money, but you still want to find ways to keep more of what I make through you? RIDICULOUS!!!

I think there needs to be a class action lawsuit against eBay for this. If anyone gets wind of one, please let me know and I will certainly join it!

I sold a couple stacks of chips on Ebay last week, printed a Priority Mail label, and sent them out in a small flat-rate box. Delivery Confirmation came back saying it arrived on Saturday.

I got a message from the buyer this morning saying that he sees the tracking shows shipped, but that he did not receive the chips. He said there is a reception desk in his building that accepts incoming packages.

I purchased insurance on the package for the amount of the sale price, but the chips I sold are no longer produced or available aside from the secondary market.

I called both USPS and Ebay, both of which suggested to try to find the package before opening a claim, and then I responded to the buyer relaying what USPS and Ebay had said.

Is there anything else I could or should be doing here to protect myself? I am certain that I shipped the chips I listed, and it appears they were delivered.

2000 miles away, I feel like there isn't as much I can do to help determine what happened.

Help! Any advice/suggestions would be hugely appreciated.
